I'm no expert, but lots of people here run Mobil 1 synthetic. I personally use AMSOil full synthethic 5W30. www.g-owners.com has oil analysis reports from G35 users and most run Mobil 1.

castrol syntec 0w-30 motor oil, if it's porsche approved, it's good enough for your G35.

whatever you do, go with a Xw40 weight oil.. the high revving vq35 motor wears much better with a heavier weight oil as suggested by oil analysis. In my friends' coupes and my sedan I use the amsoil HDD 5w30 which is very close to a 5w40 weight oil (it actually turns into a 5w40 weight oil after a few K...). I would be interested to try the amsoil 5w40 european car forumla oil as well...

Currently in my sedan I am running mobil 1 0w40

Unless the car is being operated in extreme conditions or is FI, I'd recommend going with the factory 5W-30. I personally have used Mobile 1 in all my cars.

I use Castrol Syntec 5W30 with OEM filters.
I will consider using Mobil 1 also once I use up my Castrol supply.
I use synthetic from the first o/change.

From the factory our cars are filled with Xw40 weight oil. Manual says either Xw30 or Xw40 weight oil can be used. The Xw30 weight oils are better for fuel economy (slightly), while the Xw40 weight oils are better for protection from wear.

Also, I think you would notice a lot less consumption using a 40 weight oil.

I agree with bythebay, go with Mobil1 0w40 or Castrol Syntec 0w30 (the made in Germany one). The Castrol is in the upper 30wt range so it is ideal for our engines. 5w30 is not recommended for the VQ35 anywhere outside the US, and I would especially not run M1 5w30 as that turns into a 20wt fairly quickly... Unless you are willing to trade some wear for tiny bit of gas mileage.
