Can the radio be this bad!!!!
Probably the biggest problem with the stereo in this car is that it is NOT that easy to fix. The non-conventional setup (2 ohm, 4 ohm, ?, speakers, no pre-outs, no provision for aux, incorporating the AC controls into the radio integrated circuit board) are not friendly to upgrading. It would be easier to excuse putting in a so-so stereo as an expensive option in a luxury car if it didn't seem like an active effort to make it tougher to upgrade....
I've done the increase the treble and bass trick, but the system still does not sound that good. I agree that it actually gets worse with radio. IMO FM stereo is unlistenable, if that's a word. System works fine for talk radio :-) That being said, I still really like this car.
Given that others like the stereo, maybe its just not designed for my ears.

hmm...I don't know if you guys grew up with competition sound systems your whole life, but the system sounds perfectly fine. I don't know how loud you want it? Infiniti has a target market of 30-50 year olds who are successful and wants a sports car without the price or discomfort. For this market segment the stereo is right on. It is not meant for bassy rap. Put Mozart in and turn the sound up, you'll change your mind. Each car is built for a specific demographic, the g35 wasn't meant for low 20 somethings that want bass.
Knowing this...I have no problems with the sound quality. CD skipping issues, are a whole different story.

Agreed. I have had numerous aftermarket systems and the bose does not compare in any way. However, Its waaayyyy better than 90% of the factory systems out there. If u rent a car you'll appreciate ur bose system for sure. Bottom line. Is it great? No. Is is good enough to not bother messing with aftermarket? For now it is.

AussieV35 might be on drugs as well apparently
With that being said, maybe someone should do some research on why some people love it and why some people think it sucks. Don't know if some years just got good batches or what.
For me, even listening to rap, the bass hits pretty hard. The closest comparision I can think of is maybe when I had a TL with the stock 10in bose sub. It doesn't hit nearly as hard as the 2 12s I had back in the day but it's pretty darn good stock.
OK, due to my deer hitting incident or more like accident, I've been driving a rental for a couple of days. I must admit that the system in the G35 is better than the system in the rental.
I am not a 20 something, but a late 30 something so I guess I fall into the sweet spot for the demographic of this car. I'm not looking for a sound system on wheels or bass to knock me out of the car. There is a difference between clean crisp bass and loud bass. When I get the car back, I'll try a couple of my classical cds. I have tried jazz, and the stereo did sound better.
The stereo is by no means a deal breaker for me as far as the car goes, I love absolutely everything else about it. I have been told that the stereo sounds better after it breaks in and given that this is new car maybe it just hasn't quite broken in.

I don't find the sound to be *that* bad, but the display washing out in direct sunlight is pretty bad. Also, if I turn the dash light dimmer down all the way, the stereo display pulses. Hmmm.
