Can the radio be this bad!!!!

Hate to vent, and I know this topic has been covered, but the sound system in the G35 Coupe is ridiculously bad. The unit produces muddy to nonexistent lows, and weak highs. The six speaker stereo in my 04 Corolla blows it away. To add insult to injury the display washes out in direct sunlight. How could Infiniti get everything else so right on this car, and blow it on something as simple as the sound system?

I'm not entirely sure what's the deal since I have heard mixed reviews but my Bose system sounds awesome in the car...more so than the ones in my TL, CL, Supra, Accord, etc.

^^what drugs were u on when u placed that statement (or listened to your stereo)? i agree wholeheartedly with the original poster. absolutely no depth of sound in our stereos at all.

I have the BOSE system and I am not as overly disappointed with it as most people seem to be. The system certainly plays loud enough with no distortion and sounds clear to me. For a stock stereo system it is not bad at all!

There is no way that a manufacturer could put together a system that would please everyone. Peoples taste in the way they like their music to sound varies greatly. I personally don't like real bright highs in a stereo system. This could be one reason that I like the stock BOSE system in the G compared to the next guy.

Infiniti could throw thousands of dollars into a stereo system for their cars but they would still have drivers disappointed because it was not to their liking.

Fortunately we have options to fix what we don't like. It will be quite easy for you to upgrade the system to a head unit and speakers of your preference.

Good luck with it and enjoy the G for everything else it offers!

I am definitely enjoying everything else about the car ... at least I was until I hit a deer this morning. You are correct that the stereo can be fixed. All in all it is just a minor annoyance, but I think there is room for improvement. I'm not looking for car shaking base, but clean crisp base would be nice, same for the highs, just enough for clear separation would be nice.

As soon as the weather warms up, the windows will come down and I'll enjoy the exhaust note!

^^

Yes I noticed this on your other post. Again I am glad you are ok!

You might come out ahead with insurance it will just be a big hassle when everything is going on. Possibly you can end up with some extra cash to upgrade the system.

Keep your head up and let us know what happens.

I've found that if I turn it down, things sound pretty good from 2000-3500RPM. I hope to improve the range after installing the tuned pipes. :p

the speakers do bite, the bose system in my old FX sounded soooo much better (I dont kno if it even used different speakers, but sure as hell sounded better)

GT-Ron Jan 11, 2006 02:28 PM

For the Bose system with the OEM extra 6x9 speakers on the rear shelf, are there OEM baffles or enclosures under them accessible from the trunk? If so, I'd like to know so maybe I can use them if I ever add a pair of 6X9s for my base unit.

I suppose the drugs would be called my opinion now wouldn't it? All I know is my system hits pretty hard and is clear. Why I have no idea...not sure if some batches/years were better than the rest of if some people have been spoiled with awesome systems and the definition of a "good system is relative at that point. All I know is from the stock systems I've heard, the one in MY G is pretty good. The bass can hit to a point where everything is deep/loud that I just turn it down to +3.

Mine also has:

- constant trouble reading CDs

- intermittently doesn't know how to restart playing from where it stopped. ( for crying out loud!!!)

Seriously. W T F? How could a damn simple CD player suck this much?

codeflux Jan 11, 2006 07:24 PM

the few times when i had a loaner car with Bose, i was less than impressed with the sound. in fact, i couldn't wait to get back into my non-Bose car. i'm sorry, but IMHO the Bose system in G35 outright sucks.

lelg35 Jan 11, 2006 08:09 PM

For those that complain and those that say it sounds good...what are you usually listening to: the radio or CDs? For me, I agree that when I listen to the radio, it's pretty bad. But when CDs play, it's much better(meaning, clearer lows, highs). Maybe the radio receiver could be better. That makes me think that it's not the speakers alone that sound muddy.

twitch Jan 11, 2006 08:42 PM

^^ CD's and XM. Radio is a little fuzzy sometimes but since I've installed XM I have no use for local radio.

Frostya Jan 11, 2006 09:00 PM

The only time it sounds muddy is when I forget to do the Bass/Trebble shuffle when I start the car, lol...
