Hit a deer - Pictures posted

I hit a deer on the way into work this morning. The car has front end damage to the hood (looks like it will need to be replaced) and damage to the radiator and radiator support bracket. It was dead center hit so the airbag deployed. Luckily the deer did not come through the windshield and I walked away with only minor airbag burns on my hand and wrist.

The driver behind me was nice enough to stop. He said the deer did a flip, stood back up and went running off into the woods. Poor deer will probably die from internal bleeding. There is no way it could have taken a shot from a 3,500 lb car and not been hurt.

I did not have a camera on me, but I will try to stop by the body shop to take pictures for posting. Bad news is the car is new and still on temp tags, so my first pic posting will be before and after shots. Good news is that I'm home and not in a hospital recovering from severe injuries.

Man, so sorry to hear that. I've been on the interstate often lately and witnessed many deer remains on the highway and thought it would really suck to hit one!

Fortunately, as you said, you walked away.

Good luck with everything!!

Smite!

Could have been worse, glad you're okay. I hit deers with both of my previous cars... they ran off both times.

Deer are pretty bad, sorry you had an encounter with one. I've had a bunch of friends who have hit them (or even moose, which can be alot worse) since in NH they're are so many of them. Oddest one tho was I had a friend with an A4 who was on the interstate, and ran over a carcass of a dead deer. Screwed up the front end, some suspension, and left the worst smell on the car for the longest time, cause all the blood and guts slimed the bottom of the chassis. He also said he went airborne for a split second as well....

Thanks for all the support. Shots from before and after the accident. Original estimate from the insurance adjuster is more than $7K.

Heeb,

The deer left a little bit of himself on your vette. Was there any damage to the frame or suspension?

I'm not a hunter, but I say "open season year round" and not with just a vehicle.

I thought about this on the way to work this morning when I had a small deer run across the hwy blocks ahead of me.

It looks like the weather set the mood for the car when you took the pics. I know it sucks for your baby to be crinkled up.

Take care man!

That's a lot of damage, but could have been much worse.
Glad you weren't hurt. Good luck with repairs.

man i hit a deer 2 years ago with my millenia, though i never took pics... pretty much I had no front passenger side corner left, my bumper was gone, headlight ruined (had a piece of the deer's ear stuck inside), then after the initial hit, he flipped around and hit both of my passenger side door, not just denting them but actually leaving 12 inch cracks on both doors! 5000 dollar fix!

Sorry about you car.
I hit a deer with my Corolla GTS and one with my Supra. Lucky for me both were in Florida where they have small deer. That's why I switched to Infiniti. I think they are attracted to Toyotas.
