Just a curiousity I have, I see many people "re-badge" their car to the 350 GT and Skyline designation but I have seen very few people actually use the GT-R designation. I know many folks including the BMW people who have no problem adding the "M" to their cars, and even BMW will add a M to your car if you go to Germany when it's produced. Their rational has been if the car has "upgraded sport" components that its "worthy" of the additional motorsports designation. Is there some significance or "reverence" in the GT-R designation? I'm somewhat new to world of JDM so please excuse the question if its simplistic in nature. I was just curious.

 

Well, I guess the sticking point with rebadging to the GT-R is that there currently is no GT-R. Whereas with the M badge, there are M cars in production.

Most M'ers I know consider adding an M badge to a non-M car to be bad..

 

Put simple: Add an M or a GT-R badge = RICE

Explained: You must be confused, the emblem G 35 doods put is GT. I think its with the kenstyle (someone correct me), but puttin GT-R badge on your car will yield to many ppl pointing at you and talking bad. 350GT is ok cuz thats what its called in Japan. So I suggest you leave the GT-R badge alone unles you want to be a GT-R(icer)

LOL, very good..I was just curious. I agree to a certain extent that it seems every ricer out there add the emblem. What I do find interesting is that when it comes to the Top Secret car which has the emblem, nothing is ever said.

 

It's a matter of opinion, but I wouldn't put either the 350GT or GT-R emblems on. My car will never be either of those; it's a G35 no matter how I mod it.

hmmmm very good point. Ok with that in mind, when does a G35 no longer be a G35? I mean, if you install a wide body kit with a new front bumper is it still a G35? If you add a TT or SC is it still a G35 or does it become something more. Sorry bored at work here and tired of reading the same old posts

 

If you add a twin-turbo kit and manage to get Nissan's nice AWD system to fit, I'd see how the GT-R badge would fit. I don't think it would be justified on even a RWD, hi-HP turbo G35.

That said, I do think the 350GT is fine to do because that's the JDM designation. Rebadging is fine, IMO, as long as it's based on something rational. Swapping between manufacturers or model/trim levels isn't something I would do. Personally, I hate seeing any custom turbo car where the owner decied to use the Porsche 911 turbo emblem to show they're FI. I always recognize what it's from.

 

Well, the top secret car is crazy fast...so most people can look the other way when it comes to the GT-R badge

The question is not when it no longer is a G35, it's when does it become a GT-R car....and the answer is simply there is no GT-R (yet) so there's no way to compare.

 

Yeah, the Top Secret GTR, is a twin turbo V8 engine.... around 720 hp.... I'd say it's pretty worthy to hold a GTR badge.. (^_^)

 

everyone i know in the bimmer crowd (and i know a good number) think that its stupid looking to badge M and not have it. there is a 318 wagon around here that is sc'ed and badged m3...... it makes me cringe when i see it (he also has a salvage title

 

^ I think so to. Its plain dumb badging your car something it is not. If it didnt come from the factory that way, then forget it.

 

I agree. A G35 with a body kit, new motor, TT, new suspension, new wheels...and so on...to me is just a very modded G35. A GT-R is always a GT-R (and something I'll never have...lol). I think the G35/350GT is more fuzzy, but they're really separate vehicles. The 350GT is RHD, has different badging, and I'm sure has a different ECU as well as some other goodies.

The name G35 is just a stupid name for a car. I just wish they would name it the Infiniti Skyline and be done with it!!!!
