Damn! I put the wrong oil in my car!

Ok, I'm an idiot. I went to the auto store today and picked up a case of Mobil1 5W-30.....for Truck & SUV!

I didn't realize this until I poured 4 quarts into my G.

Looking on Mobil1.com, I'm hoping it's the same oil, except, "Extra performance additive helps provide exceptional performance under all operating conditions, and additional protection for engines that operate under heavy load or stress, including towing, hauling and other severe service."

http://mobil1.com/USA-English/MotorO..._SUV_5W30.aspx

Should I be ok with this oil?

Won't hurt it a bit. There is no such thing as "Truck" oil. It's just a marketing ploy. Run it and change it a bit early if you want to.

^^^ what scout says...
or you could just pretend it is a pathfinder or xterra for the next several months. Their engine is a stroked version of ours.

I have a quart of the regular 5w-30 that I used from my previous oil change. I opened the cap and took a wiff. It smells different than the truck & suv version.

Lucky our cars can't smell.
Seriously, if you feel like it was a big mistake, then you should probably change the oil to the anti-truck version of Mobil 1.

My guess is that there are some slight differences in the additives that will help keep the oil in better shape under stress conditions. I would think that there is a chance if you flog your car much this may be better for it.

But like several have said - if you are really worried then just change it.

If they taste different I'd get the oil changed ASAP.
