Unhappy Oil change 5qt or ??

Car Spec: 05 6MT Premium package. 8500 miles

I did synthetic oil change for my G today. The car feels much stronger than before!! :-) This is second time oil change for my G. The previous one was done by Infiniti Dealer at Tustin, Socal.

But, I have noticed something. After I drained all the oil - jacked up the car on left and right front side, even tilted the car a little bit to make sure all the oil is out. And took out the oil filter. I maybe splashed a little bit out when I took off the filter.(much less than half qt) Other than that, it was very clean. Then put 5qt synthetic oil back into the engine with no problem. After I check how much oil I drained from the engine, it only has 2.5qts. WTF!!!! Does the new engine burn oil? Or the previous oil change ..... OMG.. I have been driving it for 4000 miles. Should I dyno the old engine oil? Starting to hate the dealer now.....

7 qts of oil? That's a bit to much for your engine. It is always wise to check oil just to see if level is still within parameters.

i tried checking with my dipstick and oil is all over the dip stick makign it imposible to get an accurite reading. I even recleaned it and re-dipped it 4 or 5 times with the same result.

I have been told our cars take 5 quarts and I have beeen told 6. Which is it?

I was just going to wait until the first recommended service, but, after I had read some of your posts, it makes sense to me to do the first oil change sooner. The Infinity dealer is about 45 minutes away from me. Is is ok to have Jiffy Lube or some other place like that change it? Also, I would like a recommendation on what type of oil and filter is the best. An last how much should a Jiffy lube charge if I bring in my own oil and filter. Thanks!

Did you ever check the dipstick after the dealer changed it? When I did my own oil change, 5 qts. puts the reading at about 1/8" from the High mark.

Check your oil levels when the car hasn't been started yet. Let it sit for 8-12 hrs and check it in the morning on level ground. That way all the oil is still in the oil pan.

Yeah I'm going to check it first thing in the a.m. before starting her up just see where the readings are at. If to high how can I drain the excess oil without draining it all?

Thanks for all your replies. It seems like our G burns lots of oil. I guess I will check it every 1000 miles and have extra qt prepared.

I changed mine after 6k miles.. and it had 3 qts in it... I wasnt very happy to see that.. so i guess it does burn a qt every 3k.., going to have to check it more often. I just put in Mobil 1 super syn, see how that holds up, they say up to 14k.
