Parting thoughts.....

well, i sold my g35 sedan. it was an 2005 sedan, silver, black leather interior. i just wanted to pass on some thoughts about the whole experience.

dealership-
the purchase process was smooth. i was good friends with the saleman, so not too much price haggling. basically, i called him with the last day of the month deal agreed to by another dealer (although 3 1/2 hrs away) for the exact model i wanted. since they had that model, he asked his manager and they agreed, and also removed the spoiler i did not want as well.
the actual sale took 45 min. although a friend, i wish he took more time to explain all the features. a rep w/ a test drive 3 month prior at another dealership spent over an hour with me, very thourough and informative. if it was a mtter of a few hundred dollars, i would have bought from him, even though he was 45 min away. but they wouldnt budge on the price.
i paid 30k out the door for a non-premium model, at 6.5% apr. with stellar credit. this part i should have negociated as well, but with the price given, i think they had to make a few bucks else where.

staff-
all the guys who worked there seemed cocky and annoyed. maybe b/c im a young guy coming in w jeans and a tee shirt, but they seemed kind of like a frat or something. what really piussed me off was when they offered me sirius for a deal (just parts), and when it came time to make the purchase, they played the finger pointing game and couldnt do the price quoted. and they were not apologetic about it. so, i called the dealer that was cool and he gave it to me at that low price. the little things count.

misc-
the key chains blow. break in 2 months.

the car-
good:
fast!
very comfortable
handles the best of anything i've been in
tight steering
interior-layout

bad:
comfortable. at times, with sirius chill station on, heated seats cooking, anti glare mirror, and sunroof open, i almost fell asleep. coming from a pickup with lots of wind noise, i was always alert. this was more comfortable than a recliner.
squeaks/rattles
lack of features on standard model-i had to add the gentex mirror, no auto headlights off, etc.
leather-my own gripe, but black was a bad decision w a dog and heat
gas mileage!!! 18 mpg with premium? holy smokes-i didnt realize it took premium, which was my own fault
the paint-my bumper, from day own, looked different than the gray of the car. dealer blamed metal vs plastic paint differences, but it drove me nuts. luckly or not, i got tapped on the bumper 5 days after purchase (omen?), and had the whole thing repainted. same problem. they used the correct color code too. just annoyed the sh.it out of me when i walked up to it daily.
little things-
the license plates screws didnt thread good
the cup holder in relation to the heated seat switches-starbucks daily flooded in between. (more later)
the sirius display cut off
the manual automatic feature was lame-never used it

this website:
very informative. some really cool guys on here (and ladies)
other people are rude and cocky. "do a search" as responses. if someone was a member for a few months, dont you think they tried that first sherlock? that was annoying-the time it takes to answer or post the link would equal typing something rude-

why im not happy-
here in nc, infiniti is offering a crazy lease offer on g35 sedans, like 299/month w/ 2-3k down. everyone has them now. and the resale value tanked. dealers w trade offered me only 21,500 for a 6k mile prestine vehicle. my friend, who owns a dealership, got the numbers from the black book and local resalers. thats insane. ended up going to carmax, getting 25,400, and losing about 2500 from payoff. not bad at all considering, but i figured after finance research at purchase the resale was strong. glad i dumped it when i did w gas prices the way they are and kbb regional info. not really catching on the the fad-

irony-
i bought a suv-makes no sense after the gas comment-but at 18 mpg w regular, i get more practical room. not saying the g is impractical, but with more space for people, etc, i think that this defines car preacticalty for normal drivers.
i bought a 4 runner, 2006, base model. all the bells and whistles i need. plus toyota quality

funny-
tried passing my first car on a 2 way highway-bad idea. i miss the g for that. also, after strong winds and monsoon rains, id take the g any day.

conclusion-
it was a great car at the wrong time-i figured since i was young, i wanted to enjoy a car that typically older drivers buy and baby-like the mid life crisis vette. i wanted to look pimp, drive fast, and wash it with a diaper.
well, since im only 29, i also like my coffee and mcdonalds. i eat when i drive. i hate sitting down at home w fast food-feel like more of a trash ball eating off paper. but, some have said "no, never food inside my precious car, your crazy" when i commented on the heated seat switch locale, i say you got to live brother. i really dont have the time to wash it religously, eat at home, and baby this thing. not knocking anyone who does this, but coming for a truck used to get from point a to b, a chariot is not what i needed. a camry could of met my needs.
the truck is great. cloth that doesnt get hot or collect lint obviously, dog hair is invisible, high up again, and paid a price that i believe is reasonable for a car-25,500. i dont see the value in going faster for a souped up maxima. again, my own opinion. i honestly dont think id pay for a "luxury" car agian. i just entered sales, and maybe after a great year i might change my tune, but now in my life it doesnt make sense.

i wanted to thank all those who have been kind and helpful. if i had to do it all over again, i probably would. and in the future, maybe a coupe as a toy, not a sedan as an every day beater. i hated finding special parking spots, crying about paint chips, etc. -when i have the time, ill do it. good luck all and be careful,

rob

I know you'll love the toyota, all you'll ever do is drive it and change the oil. I have a 2000 Tundra and the are hard to beat, the reason I bought Infinity was that I was bored with the same Toyota interior. and I have the funnest ride I've ever had with the 'G'. Work hard, this has been your first G.
