The "HIN Itch" ...
Ok, so I was looking over my car and one of the major eye sores (well at least for me) is my Bat's front over lays. The rears came out great, but the fron'ts have way to many air pockets and just don't look smooth.... So I decided to remove them and opt to paint the insides of my headlights black. A few on this forum have done it, and although it is a task and a half to do, I figured what the hell...
And so here they are....
SOOOO much cleaner and "factory" looking than the Bat's over lays....

I was going to clear out the amber turn signal, but one I didn't have enough time and two my dremel was no where to be found, so it'll have to do for now...
And wouldn't know, a week from the show and today I get this nasty chip on my hood (I'm sure Drew knows how I feel)... To deep and big for touch up paint, so if you guys just so happen to notice a set of blacked out hood pins on my car, they're NOT there for anything else but to cover up my little chip (had to balance it out by installing both sides), so please refrain from any "ricer" comments (LOL).... You WILL hurt my feelings...
I have a new hood in the works (hush hush side project I've been working on for a little while now), but it won't be ready for the show, so I needed a quick and cheap fix... At $25 you can't beat the hood pin idea!
Well and so a week to go and already I have the HIN ITCH... anyone else, or is just me?

Don't get any idea's John! Separting the headlights is a real pain in the azz! You gotta heat up the sides with a heat gun, as you pull it apart with a small screwdriver, but just as one side comes out and you move on to the next, the side that was coming up has cooled off and you have to start all over again. You have to do it slowly as not to break anything, but at the same time fast enough so you get it off while the seal is still hot. Tricky stuff, but worth it! The end result is a clean, OEM looking headlight...

I FOUND MY DREMEL! Took the lights back apart, cut out the amber lens, blacked out the entire outer section of the turn signals (something a little different) and now I'm ready to place in clear lens, which I'm still fab'ing as we speak...
Here are the housings with no lenses....

I'll post the finished pics later on this evening if I get around to finishing them...

The OEM black sealent is VERY good and as long as you warm it up (between removal & install), it can be resued over and over again. Once settled in, I also added some more black automotive sealent / silicone to the edges (cover in the small gaps), to be certain the headlight was 100% sealed up. I'll know for sure after my first wash and rain fall (fingers crossed). Here are some more pics...

The how to on the amber removal was that I pretty much cut out the lens with a dremel, got a semi-clear piece a plastic (what they use in drop down ceiling lights), cut it so it fit perfectly behind where the amber lens was, glued and sealed it in place, and swapped out the OEM clear bulbs with amber ones...

Looks awesome Jon, can't wait to see it in person tomorrow.
My front looked like yours all day today too, I had both bumpers off, car on stands hoses all over the place. What a busy day, and I get to do it again tomorrow.

Looks like you had a fun day as well.... The headlights came out pretty good, I'm happy with them! The first time around I was like, ehhh they look nice, but with the car all "blacked out" the amber lenses were really sticking out, so they had to go....
I'll post some day time pics tomorrow with the bumper on for everyone to see. I stil havent seen the new and improved look in day light....
PS: I have a new found respect for the guy on the forum who offers this service to others for a nominal fee. You couldn't pay me enough to do it again.... (or could you...lol)....
