The chipping parts were the soft part around the window switches on the door and the steering whel. Only on the 07 and early 08. Then Infiniti switched to harder plastic instead of the soft silicon feel. To the op. If they give you hard tie just ask why Infiniti switched to harder more durable material. If they still give you hard time just take them out on the lot and show them the different between the 07 and the 09G37 or later 08 g35. See what they say for that.

Yes the nails are the one cause the problem but obviously there were way to may complains since Infiniti decided to change the material to something harder but the same look.

Now I wish they were smart enough to fix the grill pitting issue.

Oh well.

I have an 08 and just got my steering wheel and inside pull handle panel changed under warranty and I do not have the most friendly service advisor. Infiniti obviously recognizes the issue as the dealer clearly got comped from infiniti for it. also got my passenger side studio on wheels subwoofer replaced as I noticed some rattle in it.

a bunch of chips and scrape marks i guess from my fingernails- happened way too easy and prematurely. I first noticed this when the car had around 15K on it. it was an obvious defect, and was one of the few minor things that really pissed me off about this car.

Meant to take some before and after pictures but never got around to it.. Probably should have asked to keep my old steering wheel, now that I think of it.

BTW.. I wasnt aware that there was a change in material on these surfaces for late 08/09 models? Hope my the replaced parts that were of this new improved batch. I had an 09 sedan G37 as a loaner and noticed the door pull handle panel surface looked a bit different, but I figured this was because of the difference in color.

ALSO, keep in mind, I think this defect is more of an issue on black interiors, not sure about the others??

Possible since the 07 I had was black. But I remeber the trim parts were softer almost felt like silicone but the 08 trim is harder more durable and have no issue with it at all. Not a single chip on the trims. My fingernails are the same so are my habits. LOL

It seems as though the trim part of the door is actually not a big deal to worry about if the dealer won't replace--assuming it is the part that goes around the window switches and into the door pull. It is a $31 dollar part on the driver door and strangely a few dollars more on the passenger door. Judging by the fact that it is removed during door panel removal (as seen on another post) it should be easy to swap. Just my $.02. BTW, this is my first post...just got a black 08 G35 "S" 5AT. Mine has 11k on it and I noticed some chips on the door pull/window bezel and plan to either get it warrantied or just buy the part and do it myself.
