the last owner of the car was speeding and he hit a speed bump and messed up the hole bottom of the car. the engine is alright the front end was sold of as parts before he got it.

salvaged cars are dangerous, like playing with fire....

^ it may not be too bad as long as the frame isn't bent. wiring harness and electrical system should be inspected too before goign too far. otherwise then my be an inexpensive means to getting a good car and a fun project.

How trustworthy would you consider the previous owner to be? He could be BSing your friend. For all he knows, the guy might have hit a tree....

$13k? too much in my opinion, he probably end up spending $10k on top of it. so $23k for a salvage car? you can pay $25k for a clean title one.

If you're going to spend $10k, you might as well spend $20k and look into a built motor / boosted setup. If I understand it right, he wants to restore it to stock? Why bother when the cost to go all out is marginal at that point? JMO...

Salvaged cars are a good way to get the car you want at a low price, but there are some things to consider.

Because it carries a salvaged title, most likely the frame structure has been compromised. If it's the front end, which appears to be the case, you better repair it back to oem specs or else the next time it's in a frontal crash...yikes!

How much would the total parts and repairs be? He spent $12k for the car. What if the total parts and repairs costs $10k. I could've gotten a 03' clean title for $24k +/-.

Long term investment. He better keep it long term because people are hesitant to buy vehicles with salvaged titles, even if it's the car of their dreams.

My questions is...do dealers perform services on salvaged titles? I heard no because of liability issues.
