My New Radar Detector !!
Hey,
So I got my new radar detector in the mail today. It is a Whistler 3400 Remote Install Detector. I paid $160 + shipping for it from etronics.com (very good service, btw, I highly recommend them) and I received the package today. As soon as I got it, I dropped my car off at the local mobile electronics shop and had them install it. These Remote Install detectors are good because they are mad powerful and they are integrated into your car, so no chord hanging from the windshield or radar in your field of view, and the cop won't notice it when he pulls you over. I have not really driven much with the unit, so I can't really tell you about its performance.
The installer placed the display in this one sort of indentation spot in the car where the dash illumination meter, trunk release, and traction control button, are located. He told me he would mount it real nice and nothing would get in the way, but that was not the case when I came to pick it up. It is now a little bit more difficult to reach the traction control button (which I often disable when I want to drive aggressively) and he completely relocated my trunk release button !! I think he really should have called me and asked me before he pulled a stunt like that. This guy is really clever, though so he put the trunk release button in a new nice place (and it's actually cool because it's isolated, so I don't accidentally push the traction control button or adjust interior illumination) but he still should have asked me before he did that.
As for the location of the little display that you see in the first two pictures, it may seem odd, but it is actually perfect. Radar detectors usually operate using distinct tones and frequency of the tones so after having your radar detector for a little while, you learn to know what's going on just by listening (this way you don't have to glance at the detector all the time), but in case I need to see the display, I can just take an easy glance down that isn't very annoying since the display is pointed upwards right at me. The radar detector has some really great features and very user-friendly and easily customizable (it can even tell me my battery's current voltage and outside temperature!!). I have not been able to drive around with it and test it out for very long, but I will let you guys know how it holds up. Feel free to comment or ask me any questions, I am looking forward to them.

Note that the third picture shows another part of the radar, a little LASER detector, mounted on the windshield. It is hard to see because it is small and it is black (camouflages with the interior), but it is located right behind the rear-view mirror.
Sorry about picture 2's display....the text really is very clear but because of all the resizing I did, it didn't come out so good.

err...my valentine is quite hidden, and the control unit(s) are less visible than yours...and i installed it myself. it was installed good enough that after i got pulled over by the state trooper in the day time, and with him looking all over the exterior of my car, he did not notice anything besides my ezpass

Sounds like a nice setup, I bet it works well for you. But remember that in the end I paid $350 for the radar and installation, so that is $50 less than a V1, not including the cost of the remote control unit.
Good luck with the V1, that is truly a great radar detector.

WOW CLEAN INSTALL Mr. Elussive.. I have never really trusted the functionality of radar detectors. I went through a couple of Cobra's and it would not pick up nearby cops. Then I discovered the Valentine one but the unit is pretty costly. Let me know how well this unit works..

it was on, theres just usually so much crap radar signals flying around, i usually ignore them...when i heard the ka band warning, i only had enough time to go from 80 to 60...i ended up getting a seatbelt ticket, but if it wasnt for the v1, i would have a summons
