Thinking Of Doing Mrev

I know alot of people on here have the mrev and i see alot of people saying how good it is. If i pick up the mrev, do i also have to get the spacer to go with it, or can it be used by itself. If so what are the differences by itself or with spacer. And btw is this a do it yourself kinda install or should i take it to a shop?

mrev2 + 5/16 spacer is the way to go!

you can go with either one or the other, but save up your pennies and get both items at the same time

you'll be quite happy

I'm glad to hear that. Mine is supposed to be delivered tomorrow - will be installing both this weekend.

Holy COW! I just installed my MREV with 5/16" spacer this weekend and the car is a different car altogether!
If you have a 6MT, then you have the rev-up engine. The MREV is just a lower plenum (collector) from a 5AT, which is engineered for more torque. Install this on your 6MT with a 5/16" spacer and you get the torque of the 5AT and the horsepower of a 6MT. Actually more torque due to variable cam timing. The biggest gains are right in the sweet spot, between 2500 RPM and 5500 RPM. You can feel the rush come on. It's awesome.

I installed mine with a Z-tube and a Borla exhaust and now the car is actually how I had imagined it should be.

Most people have complained about the Borla but I like it. Install was pretty straight forward, the sould is deep and powerful on accel but quiet at cruise, I don't get the resonance thing that everyone talks about...

Good luck, have fun!

You won't be disappointed in the MREV.
You can do it yourself if you have ever worked under the hood of any car.
If you need any guidance or help let me know I'm on the other side of the river.

lol w/ The Scooch! I can imagine getting the z-tube, MREV and exhaust all at once. A real change in character!

You've got a good, basic combo of mods now. If you haven't already, you might consider some sway bars to round things out. Even my non-adjustable NISMO sways had about the same impact on handling as the MREV+/Headers/Cats had on performance.

I've got the original MREV+ ISO Thermal package for the RevUp, and I'm not sure how it compares with the newer version, but I'm also really happy with it.

GT RON,
Your older version MREV should be the same. I have had some technical conversations with Tony at Motordyne and while the configuration of the kit (spacer) has changed very slightly, the end result is the same. The only thing that changed was an almost negligible change in spacer thinkness to allow for a different gasket set-up (both sides). The result is the same thickness when combined with the gaskets. I don't think the lower collector has changed at all.

Most people say you can't feel an extra 15 to 20 HP and likewise torque in the mid and upper-mid midrange. HA! I'm sure my experience is not psychological. It breaks the tires loose at will now and the off the line pull is noticeably stronger as well as it being easier and smoother in the shifts.

Sway Bars? I guess those will be next! Help me! When does it stop?!

I'm addicted!

Yes, I was wondering the same thing: How does the original MREV compare with the new MREV2? I have an 05 G35 6MT Coupe, BTW. I remember reading on the original MREV when it didn't even come out yet. Now there is the newer version. I sorta remember that we didn't even need a spacer but the newer version does?
