dyno question
dyno question
simple question:
do dynos take into account the weight of a car? You get actual whp but is it really that accurate if the car isnt actually moving itself and fighting gravity?
Obviously the car weighs the same on the dyno but it isnt really moving itself, just spinning its wheels really to get its stats.
just curious.

why would the weight of the car have anything to do with whp//regardless if the car weighs 2000lbs or 10tons..the dyno is going to measure the cars max output wheel hp ..now if your racing then yes.weight would play a factor inthis..
It depends on the dyno; a dynojet does not account for weight. A mustang dyno, on the other hand, does.
The drum for a dynojet is a fixed mass. A mustang, on the other hand, I believe has a viscous fluid that allows the operator to preload the dyno; the car's weight will affect how this preload is accomplished.

I still don't get it... The weight will affect acceleration, but if you are measuring power out, then sorry, weight doesn't matter - power is power. (unless you are also measuring the transfer of power to the ground - but wouldn't that would be "Road HP" not WHP) Just my take on it.
