Well I have know someone who is wanting to trade me for my 2003 G35 coupe 52000miles with navi and things and him give me his 2002 BMW M3 with SMG and 97000miles. I am just wanting to know what you guys think of the trade.

wow... 97,000 miles.

I would rather walk. Its only a matter of time before you spend more on maintnance than the value of that car.

M3's are great, but I would never get a car with that much miles.

(I cant wait for the 08 G35 coupe!)

I was wundering if that many miles would be bad on that car. All the people at Bimmerfest.com seem to think that all those miles dont really matter and that the car would last a long time.

Thats actually not that many miles on a BMW motor. BMW motors will run forever. The thing is with BMW after 120K they start having some kind of electrical problems and those get expensive. You also need to take into consideration that the parts on this car are very expensive to get fixed. This car is almost all electronic so you cant do much on your own. So maintenance is also very expensive (alignment, brakes, rotors, tires, fluids). I would keep your G if i were you.

Go for the trade if you like teh styling better. Don't forget to have the bmw taken to bmw for a used car check up. Personally i'd only take the m3 if my parents were handing it down to me.

Are you doing the switch for performance? That's the least of my thoughts with these 2 cars

Can I buy a new warranty to go with it? He said it has warranty untill 100,000 miles. A warranty would pay for those expensive electrical problems, right?

I think i get bored with cars to easy and that is why I am thinking about doing the trade. It is not really a performance fed trade but the extra ponies wouldnt hurt. I am more after the luxury with the performance (thats why I bought the G35).

It's not the motor you ahve to worry about. Tranny, sensors, window seals, I have a lit that goes on. Go to e46fanatics and do a search for problems with coupes. I have a coupe I have put a lot of money into it. Oh and control arms and bushings. Have a M3 to just replaced the six speed tranny.

dont do it...go trade your car in for a used one with like 30K and put 5000 on it. I dont think i would ever do that kind of a trade for a little bit more speed.

the milage on a BMW is a minor point. I test drove an M3 the other week (before deciding on getting another G35 Ivory pearl woohoo!) and honesdtly i founf it hard to tell a big difference between the two. The M3 would have saved me $5K too but i just wasnt blown away by it.

Yes and No. Yes, you can buy a third party warranty BUT that car has way too many miles for them to even offer it. Think about it, most cars over 100K miles are going to have problems. So, they will not offer it. Also, most third party warranty will only cover Major problems but some will cover bumper to bumper (rare, but some do). Anywho, that is ALOT of miles for any car. Yes, BMW and many japanese cars will go way over 100K, but you will need to start replacing worn parts and those really expensive items (clutch, timing belts - not so much in current cars, brakes, etc.). Take that into considerations.

I'm not sure, but I think you've convinced yourself you want the car already.

Let me put it this way I turned down getting a M3 for my G35. The one that we already own is driven by my brother. I would rather drive the G than the M3 besides the price on them is falling fast since the release of the 335 since that car is faster and has the new body style a lot of people are getting rid of the M3 for the newer look. There has been a lot of discussion on the BMW forums about what do do about the falling prices.

I think it would be playing Russian Roulet owning a German car out of warranty, unless your deeply into modding, and don't care!

Modding lol, I hope you are rich cause you will be broke trying to mod a M3. There are CAI that cost 600 and above depending the style an dteh sound and horse power you are looking to get. you have to take all of that into account. My advice sell the g buy a rev up and mod it a few mods and you will ahve a M3 for less money. Trust me a BMW without a warranty is a money pit. With BMW you don't just fix the problem once and you are done they come back often after you replace the stock parts.
