I am sure this is old news for most but I appreciate the help. I am looking to swap the air intake on a 2004 G35 coupe/MT. Replacement with cutting anything is important to me as I would like to be able to restore to original without anyone noticing. Any suggestions? I looked at a K&N and an Injen system.

 

Get a pop charger...

 

intakes dont make a difference, save your money.

 

Intakes are a pain(referring to cleaning) in the butt, especially cold air. I would stick with short ram intake. At the end of the day, they don't do crap unless you're gonna get an exhuast and some other mods.

 

Don't waste your money on a CAI... the only real gain is sound. A pop charger is a nice solution. An oem Z-tube will run you about $75 plus shipping and the Pop charger will run you about $110 or so plus shipping.

I opted for another route. I went with the Stillen Z-tube and K&N cone filter with the MAF adapter. K&N cost me just under $50 shipped and the Stillen cost me roughly $67 shipped.

This is true only in some cases. You have to get your car tuned and you will feel the gains. If you just plug it in and drive you wont feel it right away because your ECU will take time to adjust to the modification. I know i have the injen CAI and it works amazing. The advanatage of the CAI over the standard Z-tube and drop in filter is that the CAI sits right behind the driver side hole on the front bumper(air duct?? not sure what its called) so it is getting direct air from outside (it is being forced into the air intake). The factory air intake doesnt get as much direct air from outside so it doesnt breath as well.

 

It may not be cost effective to get your car tuned just for an intake??

 

Depending on what he plans on doing in the future...true. If he is just getting a air intake and thats all he plans on doing then no i dont think it is worth it, but if he plans on modding the car in the future then yes i recommend a piggy back system for the car so it allows full potential of the mods.

I recommend the JWT pop charger and Z tube. A nice complement to all this would be a motordyne plenum spacer or the MREV mod.

 

i had a pop charger z tube and liked the sound alot...my friend has the injen cai and it sounds pretty much the same just a lil diff from the longer tube. After my car got wrecked i had to order another intake so this time around i got the injen cai just to change it up...but both are cool.

 

I think that I will go with a injen cai when the time comes
