what i noticed in your link is that they used a techtonics exhaust which is only a 2.5 inch and has a fairly restrictive aftermarket cat. My friend dynoed his car at dynospot racing in san jose and he had a full ghl 3 inch turboback with no cat and he also had 100 octane programming so my mistake in not disclosing that little bit of info as im sure you know 100 octane setting would add about 15 whp to his numbers alone plus anothe 10whp form having no cat. then take into account the exhaust being .5 inch larger from the turboback and the ambient temps being a nice 65 degrees and maybe you might not have such a hard time beleiving 240-280. However i do agree that the powerband fall sflat around 4.5-5k but the amount of torque down low might just have the gli in front by a car or two to start so id expect the g to be playing cathc up until around 80 or so form a dig.

so far he has only hit a 13.8 with traction issues he has a quaife lsd on order but his trap was 102 with a 2.3 60 ft lol but i think with a front mount intercooler and better traction he could do a 13.4-13.6 so well wait to see but we have raced form a roll of 40 and he pulled about 2 cars on me until like 110 and then i caught up to him by 125 and i pulled and shut down at 140 a car in front. i am stock with auto so im sure with a good stick driver it would be a good race but from a low roll i think he would walk all over a fairly stock g35

Stock-for-stock, the G35 (any model, any year, any tranny) will shame a GLI, based on my test driving of both. With some light mods (ECU upgrade, exhaust), a GLI may get into "driver's race" territory.
ahh.. i didnt realize that.

Update

Ok so I go to my local shop here in town that specializies in VW's. These guys do high power vw's and nothing else. So I go last night and tell them about these high speed claims and they start laughing. By the end of the visit they told me to leave my coupe at home and bring out the "z". I just purchased this z which is a 1984 300zx Turbo. I paid $1,000 for it last week. So the race is on this weekend a 1984 300zx VS 2006 VW Jetta GLI. Im gonna smoke him..... and the second part of the bet is if he or is so called buddie with the same car can go 160-180mph. This bet holds a price tag of $1,000 or my "Z"

Is the race to see who is quicker (e.g., 1/4 mile) or who is faster (i.e., top speed)?

U Should be able to kill him, AND 160mph crap is BS, since his car would be airborn at that speed. There is a reason they limited that car to 140.

I don't know if this is going to help you any, but I have a friend that has a 06 gli with the chip upgrade, turbo back (don't know which brand), and 20 psi of boost (don't know what it comes with stock). He has a boost gauge that is why I know he is at 20 psi. He tries to race me, but I never race on the street and I don't care if my car is slower or not as long as I get to where I need to be in one peice and looking good while doing it. And most people will agree with me on here that a G35 Coup looks way better hahaha. I mean I do push my car just to see what it can do but no racing for me don't see the point of it. So what if your car is faster then mine and that will get you what? Anyway he claims he has raced 350z and other G35 and smoked them as he would put it. I've been in his car and it isn't slow that I can tell you or at least it feels fast. He asked me what is the fastes I taken my car up to and up till now I've done 120 on I75. Not in a race or anything just wanted to see how well the car felt at those speeds when I firts got it. He says that i should have no problem going 140, because he has raced at those speeds against a G35.

stock limiter is set at 135 and that can be reached on a gli with alot....... emphasis on alot of room. Chip will take limiter off and i recall my 20th with a 6 speed being geared to hit a top of 172 obviously i couldnt hit that due to my coefficient of drag being equivalent to a brick lol and not having near enough power but i did hit 160 on 505 in northern california before and i couldnt really push past that so it is possible with enough room for him to possibly hit 160 with his mods but well see what happens. In regards to styling i must say the g coupe is far better but i will say that the new gli interior is def worlds better than a g coupe in fit, finish and style in my opinion but opinions are lke *******s everyones got one.

Cool Tell me how it goes I gotta a friend who has an 05 VW GTI

His is the model that came with the turbo and I've dirven with him and his car does move, the only difference I noticed with his and mine was just the speed in acceleration from like 2nd gear up I notice my car accelerates slighlty faster. Still not enough for me to be confident I can take him though, so tell me how it goes when you guys race.

I Had a 2003 GTI VR6 with a S/C and my Stock G35 would and will walk all over it. The VR only has about 190hp at the wheel stock and after a nice S/C you are looking at about 235ish at the wheel. The car was fast and was fun but the G would eat it up all day long! As far as the new 2.0T GLi you would need more then a chip to run with a G over 50ish. End of story the G would win.

He should've walked on you by a few jumbo jet lengths with 2350whp.

I smell BS!
