drivers side speakers

My drivers side speakers are screwed up. When i put the sound all to the rear drivers speaker, there is no sound. and when i put the sound to the speaker to the front drivers side there is very little sound and it is all distorted. what could be causing this? Should i just take it in although i hate to because its a pain in the as$ to do.
