If the body shop told you they couldn't accurately match the paint, they are either lying or incompetent. In my 20 years of modding I know that it can be done. It just takes a lot of work. Trying several times to compensate for absortion on different materials, age of the car, sun and oxidation...all can be compensated for with patience. The shop you used just didn't want to take the time to give the best quality work.
