Weight Reduction....

Hey peeps,

Recently my cousin and i were working on his S2000, and i realized that he removed his spare tire....for a little weight loss....I've done this in previous cars i own..and noticed nothing so i never bothered to try it in the G...

However, i took out the GIGANTIC STEELY, jack, and all the rest of the tools out of the trunk. Now with my estimate of weight...it was about 50lbs- 55lbs... i lost....SO i took it out.. Now when i went for a drive...i dont know if it is my imagination...just IMO i feel a little more pep, in first and second. Now it could be my imagination...and i have like half a tank gas, but i do feel a little difference. I know its only 50lbs off the rear wheels, but still it just feels different, a better different.

Has any one else tried this?? If so, did it feel any better, cuz i can swear that it feels a little better! alright thanks, peace

Re: Weight Reduction....

I thought I felt the same when i took everything out of my trunk for the track. But my weight reduction was probably close to 100lb since I kept a bunch of unnecessary stuff in there.

Re: Weight Reduction....

A "rule of thumb" for cars in the 3000-4000# range is that a reduction of 100# means a reduction in 1/4 mile ET of 0.1 second. A sensitive driver might feel that difference....

Re: Weight Reduction....

If you're like me, the easiest way to reduce weight might be to lose weight myself...i gained like 20 pounds from summer til now so once i start working out again, 20 pounds right there.

Re: Weight Reduction....

So.. if you remove the jack, but keep the spare tire, what's the point? It gets kind of difficult to get the spare wheel to line up with the lug bolts one-handed, since your other hand would obviously be holding up the car, and that's if your fingers are't cramping from removing the lug nuts without tools in the first place....

Take the tire out, too. It'll double your trunk space.

Re: Weight Reduction....

Nothing else easily but next up is the exhaust system. A quality aftermarket exhaust will lose you 100 lbs if you replace from the headers on back. (that number is for the sedan, I think the coupe would have to convert to a single exhaust to do that much drop)
