ztube,filter, and stock air box

I was wondering if I should just get a drop in k&n filter for my stock air box with my upgrade ztube or a jwt? Is there really a big difference? I like the sleeper look with the stock air box! thanks

Kenny

i doubt there is a big difference.... only big difference will be the sound. the jwt will give you the meaner/louder growl... not sure what you're looking for... if you want sleeper style then stick with the stock airbox. but performance wise, there is probably not much difference in the two

I got the Z tube with the stock air box now. it's kool. When I put the z tube in I could feelt he difference. but you definately do sacrifice some aesthetics because you lose that trademark coupe whine. I bought a JWT that i'll be putting in this week. I want some growl back.

If you're looking to stay sleeper you might also consider the Stillen intake. It looks very similar to stock since it's a high flow airbox, not a long-tube or short-ram CAI. It's more or less a slightly bigger airbox that allows for a cone filter instead of the OEM panel filter.

There's a lot of controversy over whether the Stillen intake outperforms other intakes, but everyone seems to generally agree that it has a good sound and does not lose bottom end power as some others do.

Hope that helps and let us know what you end up with.

The Ztube/ K&N filter gives you the nest use for your money. If you are looking to change the sound dramatically then you can go with the others. As regards performance- it is all minimal but the Z-tube/ kilter combo is as good or better than all the aftermaket intakes.
I would no go with CAI beccaue you loose low end torque. The Stillen Airbox works a lot like a K&N in the stock airbox. I saw a dyno in which all of the popular items were compared. The Z-tube/ K&N combo was better overall- especially at low RPMs.

You might also consider going with an Amsoil filter instead of the K&N filter so that you don't have to mess with oiling it (and hoping that you don't mess up the MAF sensor).

as long as u dont get crazy with the oil on the k&n u should never have a problem.... when the are new they have way to much oil on them due to packaging [how long on shelve/@what temp] been using k&n since EARLY
80's, never an issue .................

So you have the K&N Panel filter in your stock air box? I did feel a difference with my ztube instead of the stock g35 tube. I just want a better filter for performance, so I guess the K&N Panel Filter will do! The sound right now is not so loud or mean, but you can hear it a bit! How much do K&N panel filters go for? If its almost like a JWT than ill just get that instead!
