330 Surprized me
Raced a 330 last night and was DEAD EVEN with him through the end of third gear. I think it might have had the performance package. it was a pretty good race from a roll and when I say dead even I mean dead even. Side view to Side View the whole time. I think I might have pulled on him through fourth but there was no time for that. Anyone know how to tell if it has the performance package?

Yea.. he will have those sweet 18" rims that are only found on the 330i ZHP (Performance Package) Also, if u get a view of the interior, he will have an ///M Steering wheel & ///M Shifter, and many componets of the interior will be wrapped in BMW's Alacantra suede leather. Those things are pretty fast and wouldnt be surprised if it gave you a run. BUT THE G SHOULD STILL WIN. It has 235hp vs our 280. Drive well and win.

Re: 330 Surprized me
I've read similar posts for over a year. If you look at the specs the G35 shoud be the clear cut winner.
BMW Sedan Perf Package - 235 hp, 222 ft/lbs torque, 3285 # curb weight MT
G35 Coupe - 280 hp, 270 ft/lbs torque, 3435 # curb weight MT
G35 Sedan - 260 hp, 260 ft/lbs torque, 3398 # curb weight MT
Possible reasons why the performance is so close include:
1 - BMW underrates the hp and torque of their engines.
2 - BMW rates engine power at the rear wheels.
3 - BMW's engines make more accross the board torque sooner than the G35's.
4 - Infiniti overrates the G35's power.
Discussion time.

Re: 330 Surprized me
Nissan doesn't overrate, they rate crank power, and they lose a lot of power to the rear wheels...That's always been an issue...Their heavy flywheels are great for gas mileage and durability, but it doesn't at all help with delivery of power (using MTs as an example, since that's all I'll drive)...Unfortunate, but true...

Re: 330 Surprized me
The performance "package" as you call it is not the same thing as the performance model. Of course the 2 door car has the "package" (wheels, tires, sport seats etc), but the 330i (four door) performance model also makes more power than the 330Ci (two door).
So what I meant was if he was sure he was racing a performance model (4 door only) by asking if it was in fact a 4 door 330

BMW ranks HP from the wheels not the crank so its closer then u would think

I don't think this is correct. The G puts down around 225 rwhp (according to the dyno slips I've seen) so if the 330 was putting down 235 rwhp I'm sure that with the extra hp AND the reduced weight that car would be kickin' some serious G/Z azz. That would make the crank hp on the 330 around 292 hp assuming the same amount of drivetrain loss as the G... not likely.

Re: 330 Surprized me
Performance package is the only 3 series (except m3) that will keep up with G coupe untill 100 or so.
My friend raced the performance package on the freeway 70-120. We had 3 people in the car, and we started to pull away from about 100.

Re: 330 Surprized me
I think it should be a close match, depending on whether you were driving an auto or stick and whether the other car you were racing with was an auto or stick. But you should be able to pull on him at a higher speed without a doubt. In addition, performace package is only avaiable for sedan. Coupe version only has the sport package with sport steering, seats, and wheels. I am not sure whether BMW measure thier horsepower at crank or wheel, but German cars like Mercedes and Audi measure it at crank. So I would say that BMW is the same, since German automakers are lazier than Japanese automakers in my opinion. Yet, BMW makes some awesome rides. No doubt about it.
