Aerokit - Need Opinions
Aerokit - Need Opinions
I have the factory Aerokit kit on order, and I'm debating wheter or not to have it installed on "Baby". I know it will give me better CD numbers, but I'm wondering about how it is going to look, and if I will get my money out of it when I'm ready to sell. The dealer told me that they will probably leave the 3rd brake light in the rear window in addition to the one in the spoiler.
So that's my delema. Any opinions would sure help.
Thanks,
VettRN

I got it for looks, as you really will never notice the increased Aerodynamics unless you take the car to a high speed track. I think it looks great, makes the car appear shorter and sportier. That's my opinions though. It also depends a bit on the color.

Re: Aerokit - Need Opinions
In my humble opinions....
I have owned both the sedan and coupe.
I feel the sedan definately needs the OEM(or similar style) spoiler. With out it, it seems cut off on the rear. It adds a sportier touch and really completes the car.
On the coupe however. I think the OEM spoiler is a lil ehhh. Makes the car look cheap. The lines on the coupe are completely lost with the spoiler. But that is me judging the coupe with spoiler from pictures only. I have yet to take a long look at a coupe with a spoiler.
so in my current opinion I am
Pro kit on sedan
anti kit on coupe

I had it on my Garnet Sedan, but not on my Silverstone Coupe
At the moment I prefer it without, next year , who knows?

What I am interested in tho are the underbody diffusers (that go under the body and behind the wheels. Do you know if your kit will have them?

According to the dealer, the underbody diffusers are part of the kit.
This is really tough. I'm not at all disappointed with the Coupe's looks W/O the spoiler. I sure would like to see a Pearl Coupe with a spoiler in person.

White is actually one of the colors I have seen both on, It doesn't look bad at all with the spoiler, but white is a color that also looks great without. you can't go wrong either way.

Re: Aerokit - Need Opinions
I also had this dilemma. I finally decided to add the aero to my D/G order for a couple of reasons. First, the spoiler looks much better in person than in pictures. Directly from the side, when you are eye level with, say, the rear view mirrors (you know, like the angle alot of the promo shots are), the car's lines look terrific without the spoiler. When viewing the car in person, you are looking at it rom a higher vantage point, and the back of the car looks more rounded and dropps off pretty rapidly. Still looks nice, but the addition of the spoiler seems to finish off the rear. Next, of course is the fucntionality. it does reduce the CD and comes with the underbody aero pieces, which will likely be very difficult to get a hold of separately (just ask the 350Z guys). For those of you debating, it's much better to order the car with the spoiler than to add it later. You won't get the underbody trays and you'll end up with a redundant 3rd brake light in the rear window even if they do unhook it. When it comes from the factory, they omit the rear deck third brake light altogether. This is why the G's spoiler is a factory added option as opposed to a port added option. Next, consider what else is on the car. With all new coupes coming with splash gaurds installed, it will look more balanced to have these in combination with the spoiler. There is also the lower aero kit to think about which includes the front lip and more wrap-around splash gaurd aero pieces. It all really depends on how you want the car to look. Personally, I wanted a slightly more sporty look over purely classy/luxury; I did cancel a 350Z order to get the G, after all.

Re: Aerokit - Need Opinions
Thanks for the info on the diffusers. After you posted, I asked my dealer to look into them for me. Not a big issue, but I'd like to put them on anyway.
I understand your dilemma on the wing. I was that close to putting one on myself having had many lately with wings. But have become neutral on the idea, now, and am leaning toward keeping the clean lines pure. I figure a 'cooling off' period was what I needed to see what I really wanted. If I want one in the future, it can be added then.
One other thing: As a dealer installed option, and as your dealer told you, the 3rd. brake lite will stay in the window. If that's true and it has to stay, I think it detracts from the looks badly. Almost like the wing was an obvious afterthought, and no way looks as 'cool' as factory (3rd. light in wing)
Also more chance for scratches, mistakes, and rust with an add-on. Food for thought and just my HO.

All good points...... I think the "4th" brake light is the biggest issue with me. What are the "splash guards"? Not sure if mine has them. Can you tell from this pic?

No splash guards on yours. They're available from the dealer. Probably back ordered like mine. Jury's out as to whether they look ok or not.

Re: Aerokit - Need Opinions
DONT GET THE AERO KIT!!!!!!
Rear diffusers dont do squat unless your going +120mph
A spoiler alone does not lower the CD of a car, it increases drag... its just the diffusers lower the underbody drag so therefore CD is less overall.
I had the aero kit on order but cancelled it and decided to go without it from the factory... The spoiler is OK Looking but it really does subtract from the lines of the car as a couple of people already said.
Maybe you should get the splashgaurds and post some pics...because none of us here on this forum have seen a G coupe with these splashgaurds
so to recap, do not get the aero kit just for the diffusers, they are just pieces of plastic that im sure there are pre-drilled holes to put some in.
your car looks great as is!!! white was an excellent choice
