So, how does our engine stack up against others

Hi all,
I am just curious to know how does our engine compares to others. I would like to know how different our engine is from the R34 for example or the last Supra. I know those are not NA engines, but if they were, how do we compare to them? Is our engine as good, better, or slightly lower quality than those. If there was another engine that we could do a better comparison with, which engine would it be?

I dont know exactly what your trying to ask...but the VQ is a very strong motor. The 2JZ from the supra was a full iron block. Heavier than hell but was virtually indestructible. The 2JZ was a monster of a motor, willing to withstand insane amounts of boost. The RB26 from the R34 was also an iron block, the same configuration as the 2JZ, an Inline-6 . There isnt any motor out there that really compares with our V6 VQ35, other than the IS350 motor. It makes a lil more power than our VQ35DE, but the VQ35HR in the latest 07 sedan seals the gap in the horsepower, but is still below the torque numbers against the IS350 motor. I believe once the new generation 08 coupe is released, Nissan/Infiniti will regain the title with its new speculated 3.7/3.8L VQ. The main bottleneck with G35 and 350Z's is our transmissions. Most G's and Z's only dyno in at around 235-245 of RWHP, thats a lil too much drivetrain loss from the proposed 298HP at the flywheel.

For one we are talking Inline-6's to a V6 here. Secondly, you really can't compare N/A and Turbo motors. The VQ35 is a very strong engine, and the old Z motor the VG30 was an also insanely strong motor. If you want to compare anything you should be comparing the VG30det to the RB26det and the 2jzdet. If you still want to compare our engine to the Supra's you can look at the last generation is300's. They run on a newer version of th 2jz but NA, and I really couldn't say which is stronger due to the fact that they are both really well built. Also, if you are talking strength the sr20 still has the record for highest HP with a stock bottom end, so if you are talking strength, the sr20det rules all. This is a really dumb comparison because these motors aren't comparable at all to the VQ. Simple fact is our motor is strong, don't worry about exactly how strong it is because it can still hang with the best.

In terms of boost tolerance, the 2JZ and RB26 are second to none. I had an r32 gtr with stock internals (except metal headgasket) with a T04Z turbo with moderate boost producing 511hp at the wheels (rear b/c attessa disabled) and good compression check. My friend is currently running around 450 on stock internals and stock headgasket in his 2jz that he swapped into his originally 1jz (also durable) Toyota Soarer. The gtr was my daily driver for about 2 years. The 2jz and rb motors have very solid bottom ends (cast iron) and tough tough internals. I honestly don't know too much about the VQ's boost tolerance but would love to know. Stillen stage 2 s/c reports around the mid 300's at the rear wheels and gives a 3yr engine warranty (from what i understand). That might mean that it can tolerate some boost but probably not too much. I think the VQ has an lightweight alloy block and lightweight pistons.
