What does this arrow by the gas symbol mean?

theres this arrow to the right of the gas symbol and i never noticed it before. was it always there or did it just come on? at first i thought it might of came on because i forgot to close the gas lid but thats not it. now im thinking its just there to tell you that the gas lid is on the right side of the car. can someone please clarify. thanks

You are correct. The arrow was always there and it is there to show you which side your gas tank is on.

All cars have this since sometime in the 1990's... It's an international standard which lets a driver know what side the fuel fill is located without having to look down the back of each side of the car, you just look at the fuel gauge and check for that arrow...

Good to know that. I always confuse myself and have to remember which side is which to put gas on since my SUV is on the left side and the G is on the right.

Ah, but you are wrong (at least about the international standard thing). My wife's TL doesn't have the arrow. Though that's the only car in the last couple years I've been in that doesn't have it.

Man, you learn something new everyday. I never noticed it was there so I just went out and checked. I am now waiting for my wife to get home so I can check her 325 to see if it has a similar symbol (what a dork I am).

Just checked on my wife's 325. It does not have an arrow.

Not wrong about the standard, it's just that it is voluntary, not mandatory and that is why you sometimes don't see it... Wish I could recall where I read this stuff...

Never noticed it, but with mg G being my first import, I've looked like an *** at the gas station many times moving to different pumps so that the gas fill is on the right side.
