G35 coupe vs. G35 Sedan vs. Mazda RX-8
Re: G35 coupe vs. G35 Sedan vs. Mazda RX-8
On the other hand, the backseat of the Coupe has dangerously low headroom for anyone under 5'7", and is much more difficult to ingress and egress due to the lack of doors and sluggish front seat motor. I'd rate them Sedan-RX8-Coupe if you want to carry 4 people.
Also, the G35/350Z manual trannies have hardly been problem free.

all I know is that in terms of looks, i don't know a single person that dislikes the looks of the g35c. Some (myself included) dislike the sedan. Others dislike the rx8.
Also, IF you need this car by the end of this year cause you're selling that other car... I'm afraid you may be out of luck with the base g35 coupe. From what I seen, it's hard as heck to get one absolute base... will have to special order, which may take as long as 3+ months.
Good luck to you.
Twlight blue/Willow 6mt on order. Options: Sunroof.

Re: G35 coupe vs. G35 Sedan vs. Mazda RX-8
I would have got the coupe if I didn't live in the midwest (winter package with tires avail on sedan), didn't have kids (need more back seat room), didn't need it for a daily driver, and had extra money (got a huge discount on sedan, but none on coupe). Based on where you live and age I think you should go for the coupe.
However, don't rule out the sedan right away. The sedan will be cheaper and a well picked color and proper mods (factory options and aftermarket) can make the sedans look pretty sweet in their own right. The attached image is one of the better looking sedans that I've seen. The sedan is alo a bit more elegant looking, but certainly less sporty compared to the coupe.
As for the RX8, blah! I don't think there will be much available for mods from what I heard.

I dont know maybe your not in the market for used but i think you can get a decent loaded up 03 coupe... for under 30,000...
dude let me tell you something.. dont get cloth or a base coupe your gonna regret alot of things in the future..
Like the sun roof..
having a bad smell stuck to the cloth..
My coupe is loaded.. only missing 18s wheels and brembos... and nav..
And i regret not waiting for the nav.... other then that i would prolly die without a sunroof.. try to get a loaded coupe used for under 30,000 plus you will also gain alot on the resale value..

Can't go wrong with either the coupe or the 6MT sedan. The nice thing about the 6MT sedan is that it has room to take friends (come on, guys, who's gonna climb in the back seat of a 2-door??) and it's WAY cheaper than the 6MT coupe.
Lower the 6mt sedan, upgrade the wheels, add a few of the several bang-for-buck performance mods and you're still way less than the stock coupe pricewise and measurably faster.

Just another option... Coupe's sweet as can be as well. You might even consider a low miles used coupe. You can get a 6MT with around 6000 miles on it with premium/nav (and of course the brembos and wheels) for around $32K.

Re: G35 coupe vs. G35 Sedan vs. Mazda RX-8
Hey I'm one of those rare base coupe owners out there and have to say I'm very happy with my car. I have to confess though I did not have the interest and knowledge in cars that I do now compared with when I made my purchase. This website and others (freshalloy) really have sparked an interest to the point where I kind of regret not getting a MT (although I live in NYC). As far as the cloth goes, its better quality than I expected. I've had my coupe since Feb and no stains or signs of wear yet. $ was the biggest factor in deciding against a loaded coupe for me. I do miss not having a sunroof but not having the bose is not a big deal since I plan to upgrade the audio soon anyway. Also, I just picked up a set of stock 18s from someone in my neighborhood that I'll be putting on once the winter is over. If 30,000 is your limit and you want AT go with the base G35c.
Re: G35 coupe vs. G35 Sedan vs. Mazda RX-8
If you know you're going to upgrade your tires and audio system, it's always pointless to go w/this premium crap they offer.
Leather really sucks during the winter and summer (if you don't protect your car), but the heated seats are fantastic. The sunroof, as far as I'm concerned, is for show.
I actually replied to this post because of your username. Have you seen the recent EPs of silversurfer? The animated ones? They were pretty nice.

Re: G35 coupe vs. G35 Sedan vs. Mazda RX-8
well, here's an interesting twist. a used 350Z was just advertised in the paper today with only 2000 miles and the touring package, and a 6spd tranny for just over 30,000. that's three grand less than a new touring Z and we can probably talk them down a little more. The Z was the car i wanted originally, but ruled it out b/c of the lack of back seat, but now that i think about it, i've used the back seat in my truck maybe twice in the past year, so i'm thinking maybe i'll go for it.

"The sunroof is for show"
While certainly a lux item that can be lived without - it shows the world above and keeps the value of the car a little higher as most people expect and demand a sunroof in the used market...like an AT.

Re: G35 coupe vs. G35 Sedan vs. Mazda RX-8
I'm late joing this discussion...but GET THE BASE COUPE!!! you will be happy you did. I certainly am.
And don't let the 'base' label discourage you, because minus the sunroof, it has all the option I was interested in, and then some. I was most interested in the looks and the power of the coupe, and having the base model has not put me at a disavantage at all. Also, I have 2 kids that love to ride in the 'smooth black car' as they've come to know it. The cloth interior has been very easy to maintain and has shown respectable durability, and is very capable of handling everything my 2- & 5-year-olds are able to dish out.
Although I'm looking forward to putting 18"s on my coupe, I am very pleased with it AS IS.
I was in the same boat as you last June, with $30k limit and considering the same cars. I decided to go with the Infiniti. All the coupes on the lot was $34k+, so I test drove the sedan and was 'content' with it. I walked around the lot once more after the test drive to compare the colors before making an offer on the sedan, & a shipment of coupes had just arrived with 1 base model for $29,700. & owning a coupe has been a dream ever since!!!
Although I bought the car for my own reasons only, the compliments on the road and parking lots are unavoidable; same goes for the 'challenges' at stop lights from souped-up Hondas, Toyotas and Mitsus...
I understand the importance of having options on the other vehicles...go for it if your conscience nags you. But I sincerely believe that you will regret NOT getting the Coupe-G35 way before you regret not having options in YOUR coupe.
God Bless...and happy shopping ;-)

Re: G35 coupe vs. G35 Sedan vs. Mazda RX-8
well, go figure. i just bought a car, and it wasn't any of the ones in the topic title. i bought the used 350Z 6spd that was advertised in the paper today. It's fully loaded with the touring package and a surprisingly nice willow leather interior, and only has 2100 miles on it! we offered 29,500 and he took the offer instantly. i'm kind of wishing we had tried to go lower now, but it's a moot point.
i was/am a bit skeptical about life with only 2 seats, but i'm only 21 and never have big groups in my car. i think i've used the back seat in my 4runner maybe 3-4 times in the past year.
I'll always have a love for the coupe and may still get one someday when i'm older, but i'm really excited about my new Z! thanks to everyone for your replies!

Re: G35 coupe vs. G35 Sedan vs. Mazda RX-8
Russell, congratulations. One thing: if your Z is a MT and you haven't researched the service records, do so as quickly as possible. A couple guys with Zs I talked to at a dragstrip were on their third trannies despite being below 6000 miles. Of course, they put more strain on their trannies than most. You're covered by warranty regardless, but it sounds like Zs either have no tranny problems or chronic tranny problems.
But again, congratulations, great car. Almost as good as a G!
