new Hawk HPS pads don't quite fit Brembo caliper
 

Anyone have this problem? I purchased the full set ( D180M/D181M ) from Riverside, and the fronts are about 1/32nd" too long. When I put them up against my stock pads, I could see and feel that they were just a tad too long. Maybe they put too much paint on the steel backing that day? I should be able to grind them down just a tad to make them fit, but should that be necessary?

Just curious if anyone else has experienced this problem before, or maybe I'm doing something wrong.

I have them on my 03 6MT with Brembos. Seems to be ok.

must be the installer. I had no problem whatsoever installing them

It's a known problem with the Hawks and Brembos. Just shave them down a bit.

thanks Sponger, that's what I was thinking. Did you just use a grinder?

Everyone else's comments about how they are working are nice, but I sort of figured they worked already. That's why I purchased them in the first place :p

I had the same issue. You shouldn't need to use a grinder. It seems the paint they apply is a bit too thick. I used sandpaper and a flat block to sand the surface evenly and tried to do the same amount on both ends.

This was the only problem I had during installation but it was very frustrating to me as I didn't know what the exact problem was.

ah good deal twitch. that's something i can do tomorrow, and not wait until Monday to have access to a ginder.

Yep there is no need to wait for a grinder. Even if you find you need to take off more than sandpaper will handle a file will work too (actually I may have used a small file before sandpaper but I don't quite remember).

Also remember to remove the brake pad shims that are on the stock pads. Apply these to the back of the Hawk pads in the same orientation they are on the stock pads. Put some brake lube between the shim and the back of the pad. This will keep the pad from vibrating on the caliper piston which keeps the squeaking away.

Don't forget to bed them in properly. It makes a world of difference.

agreed...i went through two sets of these and both had this problem to varying degrees...

its a known problem when we install them at the dealership..the tech's will give me crap about know they have to do extra work...lazy bums :D
