Re: Sport coupe in the winter?
BAD. BAD BAD BAD. So bad you'll wanna cry. Do yourself and your car a favor and get a set of winter tires, or better yet, 17" winter tires with a set of rims with them, so you can swap the rims/tires yourself.
The Michelin Pilot Sport's are so bad, that you're not supposed to drive them below 40-degree (Fahrenheit) temperatures, even if the road is dry.

Re: Sport coupe in the winter?
Is our G inharently slippery in the snow? I have Blizzaks on right now and after a big snow storm (biggest in 2 years in MN), I've slipped at several places. Of course, those spots had nice and shiny ice patches, so maybe any car would slip, but one of those places was a slight uphill incline onto an intersection. I got stuck there after waiting for the cars crossing in front of me to clear out. Another front wheel drive car came behind me and seemed to have no trouble clearing that same incline.
I guess I just have to be extra careful driving this car in the winter even with Blazzaks on.

I had Blizzaks on my Sedan with good results. I now have Yokahama's on my Coupe and they are good too.
These cars aren't the best in the winter months but with care and winter tires you should be fine.
The Coupes, especially the ones equipped with Michelin Pilots (18" wheel and tire package), must have winter tires fitted. The dedicated summer rubber is absolutely useless (dangerous) in the snow and ice (and cold).

Mr.Ellusive,
Have you tried the Pilot Sports below 40°F? I drove a couple of weeks on them below that temperature with no problem. I even drove on them a couple of mornings which were down to 20°F. I never had any problem with the low temperature even a couple of times when it was raining. I did not have to drive on ice or snow though which from what I understand is suicide. I can't personally give my say on that since I only intend to try it with my winter wheels.

Re: Sport coupe in the winter?
medoug, recently it has been a bit below 40 F here in NJ. And it's not that the tires become a death-trap below 40 F, but the Pilot Sports are summer tires. Their optimal traction is dependant on warmer temperatures. If you take turns more aggressively or try spinning your rear tires from a stop, you will notice that it is noticeably easier to lose traction in very cold weather. Personally, I am going to have my Pilot Sport's on for the duration of the winter and I am not afraid...it will just take more time for the tires to warm up and I have to factor in a slight traction loss whenever I want to do some aggressive driving.
As for snow/ice with the Pilot Sport's, avoid it at all costs. I haven't had experience with this car and its Pilot Sport's, but my uncle's 740iL with 18" Pilot Sports makes it an awful performer in the snow. He gets stuck all the time and we often had to go pick him up or help him get the car un-stuck (taking turns driving it). Now whever it snows, he catches a ride to work with my dad (we live close and they work together). If the G35C is your only car and you have the Pilot Sport's on for the winter, your best bet is to setup some sort of "emergency carpool" whenever it is snowing and you just HAVE to get from point A to point B...it sounds childish, but this is the safest and smartest thing to do.

I have 2004 black sports coupe.. with sports package. I was driving down to chicago yesterday from madison,WI and it started snowing... with a full car, the car slipped and hit the ditch pretty bad... even if I was going like 10mph... these tire are NOT for the winter driving!!!! next time... I don;t think I would EVER EVER drive when it is snowing... definitley it was a near death experience for my friends and I...

Re: Sport coupe in the winter?
Don't know why everyone is even attempting to drive in winter with the Pilot Sports. Guys...these are summer tires! I wouldn't even take a chance with the Pilot Sport A/S which is Michelin's all season model. Get four winters and you'll be fine. Tired of hearing all this bickering about how crap the G handles in the snow with the Pilot Sports. Get a grip on reality folks.
