thx for the advice/info. I don't know much about tires. Just wanted to see if you guys thought it could be fixed. This way, way when I walk into discount tire, I won't appear AS dumb and have them tell me to replace the tire.
Now that this has happened, I need to order a spare for the front and rear from tirerack to keep in my garage.

I had a screw in the same spot 1 day after I bought my car. I picked it up in the nissan dealership while picking up my other car. The nissan dealer wouldn't plug it because he said he didn't want to be held responsible in case the tire "fell apart". Took it to infiniti dealer and they pretty much said the same thing. The service guy at the dealer hooked it with a plug and said it should hold. It's been about a little over a month and it's still holding. No leaks or tire falling apart.
Dealer wanted to charge me $360 to put on new tire at first. I begged him to just plug it and he did. The dealer called me later that night and said they would do it at cost. cost = $290 :|

Take the tire to a local repair shop and have them put a proper patch on it. It isn't that expensive, usually comes with a warranty and a guarantee.
Plugs are a good temp fix. I have my own plug kit that I carry when I travel in case I get a leak or no-damage flat and it isn't convenient to throw on the spare (trunk full of suitcases)... Then I head to the tire shop.

took it to discount tire. they took the screw out. Made sure it had the proper inflation. Checked for leak>no leak. Drove it>sprayed more stuff on the part where the screw was>no leak. Appears to be good to go.
When they pulled the screw out, it was only about 5mm long.
Guess I got lucky since it was just a broken screw.

I guess this is a case where no penetration was a good thing!

Cool deal...typically dealers and some tire shops won't repair our 19" flats due to the tire's speed rating. But who gives a rats' a$$! I aint spending $300+ when I could patch it up for $20. The correct procedure to patch a flat is to patch from the inside of the tire.
