We have a GSD now 8 months old, and we have a "hammock"like back cover seat to prevent him from scratching the front console or getting to the front (about $50). we use it in the sedan (family car) but will fit in the coupe also, has attachments to the front headrest and to the back seat headrest and it won't slip off like a regular blancket(we tried that, too). when you take it off you don't see any hairs or scratches, just like the dog was never there. Car's like new. I'll post some photos. Our cover it's actually just half way because of the car seat. There are different types out there, but this one is the only one that prevents him from jumping to the front (he won't do it, anyway, but better safe...) helpful link http://www.petsmart.com/global/searc...ch_results.jsp
now the photos:

That's a fantastic setup you have, it looks like it works very well. Btw, your Shepherd is beautiful and your daughter is a cutie.

I have a 90lb German Shepard and Golden. When one of them comes with me in the car they sit up front with me. I roll the windows down, they just sit there. I do hold onto the collar and put a blanket down. And i drive like an old lady. I've not had any problems with the leather.

I do like that hammock that traian posted.
