I was about to change into my winter tires and I noticed that one of my lug nuts were missing for my passenger front wheel. 
I think someone is messing with me. I've had acts of vandalism, keying. I don't like being paranoid, so someone please tell me that the lug nuts can get loose by themselves.
I have always tightened the lug nuts to 80 ft/lb along with the star method of them on.
what can be the cause?

probably just got lose. If "they" wanted to fuc with you

how would it have gotten loose by itself? If it a common problem for the lug nuts to come loose by itself, shouldn't we hear about it more often? You probably think I'm paranoid, but it's hard for me to believe that the lug nut will come loose by itself.Originally Posted by BadBoy06

check your other lug nuts and make sure they are alright. They cant come loose on their own if you had it torqued at 80lbs, but its almost impossible to fall of on its own unless you just barely had it sitting on there. Maybe someone tried to take your rims and decided to give up? Keep your eyes open for shady people.

that noted, a lot of tire/wheel shops will advise you to re torque your lugnuts to spec after a couple hundred miles or fewer. now, whether this is because their workers are incompetent or they're afraid of lawyers (or both), I don't know. But I do know I've been given that warning.
