Black housing headlamp mod
Re: Black housing headlamp mod
Ahhhrrgg, no orange bulb?!?!? That would have been perfect! That would match the clear corners perfectly, during the day all clear/white and then at night matching orange (assuming you have orange bulbs under your clears. There's got to be a way to do an orange bulb. Anyway great looking set of lights!

Exactly, well said hellboy, I do have orange in my clear corners also. Clear bulbs just don't look right to me. It looks yellow.

Re: Black housing headlamp mod
why take apart headlights from a such expensive car and cut and drill stuff?haha, i'll bet anything that your headlamps will start to fog after a while. I've done black out housing for a few different vehicles and all of them have foged out from moisture in due time. nothing is ever as good as oem man, no matter how much silicon u use.
dont get me wrong, it looks clean, but not worth it imo

I've opened up all three of my cars' headlights, and none of them have ever fogged up. I've also opened up tailights with good results. I just reheat the lights when I'm done, and let the original silicone seal the lights up.
My G35 lights have been fog free for 3 months now.
My Accord lights have been also fog free for 1.5 years.
My Acura Legend lights also the same, 2 years and counting.
This is after rainstorms, parking the cars outside with morning dew on them, washing them numerous times with hoses.

Hey E_K 2 quick questions.
You got your amber turn signal out, did you have to drill it out or did you use another technique? An when you say you heat the lights to have the OEM sealant seal it's self again, does that mean you don't use any additional sealant?
Thanks, and looking forward to checking out your lights at the meet.

beh! E_K, please post your replies cuz lots of us (i.e. ME) wants to know too.
I really want a mod like this. and it's simple in theory. I just need to address the hardest parts which are resealing the housing and smashing up the orange lense...

The orange lens you can either drill it out, or use a router bit. As for the resealing, I try to use the OEM sealant since that works well. Try not to throw away too much of the sealant when you open the lights up, then when you reseal, you heat the lights up, and then press the pieces together. Works really well.

IMHO, you did an excellent job and I give you credit for something I would never attempt, but I think the CadillacCarl did the most AMAZING job with his. It looks JUST like OEM except clear instead of amber. Check out the pics:

I know you spent some time doing that, I just don't like it on a DG car. The clear inner lights look great, but changing the housing color makes the headlights stick out like a sore thumb. I love the way the stock headlights background blends in almost flawlessly to the DG paint. Our light housings are huge to begin with. We don't need to make them dominate the front end looks. I do think the headlight mod would look awsome on an OB car though.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Your mod would look great on lets say my car "a black G" but on a DG, the OEM color blends in to make it look uniform. Just my 2 cents, but hey a big thumbs up for the workmanship!

I understand what you are saying, but maybe take another look when I complete my other mods. Gialla grille,(with black chrome mesh), Nismo front bumper, Impul sides and rear, lowered with 20' black centered aeros. I am going for the performance look, this was just the start.
