Coupe Side Mirror Blind spot?

I was test driving a G35C the other day and noticed that I had a huge blind spot on my left side. I tested to see how large the blind spot actually was by looking at the mirror, waiting for the car to pass out of my sight and then look behind my shoulder. It turned out to be about 1.5 cars lengths I think. Since I was test driving the car, I didn't have a lot of time to adjust the seating though I did adjust the mirror as best I could. The Infiniti rep also didn't have much to say about it. Any input from you vets would be helpful, not to mention just about anyone that actually owns one =) thanks!

Re: Coupe Side Mirror Blind spot?

Adjust both outside mirrors until you can see cars moves from your inside rear view mirror into either one of the outside mirror without "losing" sight of it. For example, as soon as the nose of the car behind you disappears from the inside rear view mirror, it should shows up either on the left or right side mirror. It takes a little getting used to, but it completely eliminate all blind spots once you get used to not seeing your own car in the side mirrors.

Re: Coupe Side Mirror Blind spot?

I've just grown used to it. Due to my height I have to lean back a bit more than in a sedan and the blind spot was huge. Properly adjusting the mirrors helped some but not enough to the point where the blind spot was as small as my cavalier. You give up some things to have a performance car thats just the way it is. Thats why the dealer didn't have much to say, there just isnt anything to do really.

I did that too with my mirrors... the side mirrors were adjusted so that I could only see what was on teh side of me, and used the rear-view for behind me. But lately I bought those angled stick on round mirrors and put them on, they work wonders...

I use the little round bubble mirrors. No blind spots and you don't need to tilt your mirrors down when backing into a parking spot.

the little mirrors won't make your car look nearly as cheap as a smashed quarter panel.

Re: Coupe Side Mirror Blind spot?

Another way to do this:

With the car stopped and the inside mirror set properly, adjust both outside mirrors so they show a tiny bit of what the outside edges of the inside mirror shows, creating a small overlap of the view. This way there's no gap/blind spot, and the outside mirrors should fill in the view right up to where your peripheral vision starts. I've done this in every car I've owned and it works great, although I still glance over my shoulder for lane changes out of habit/caution.

Also note that the right side mirror is VERY wide angle. Cars will appear MUCH further away than they are. I almost hit a couple of people in the first few days I owned the car becuase of this. It still takes conscious effort to interpret it well after owning the car for almost 7 months.

Re: Coupe Side Mirror Blind spot?

I don't care to look it up again... but i came across a little known FL law that your actually not allowed to turn your head to see blind spots if you loose sight of the road in front for even a split second....

Some guy on here a while back told us all how to adjust our mirrors, in accordance with the way that race car drivers do... sort of like the way mentioned above....

1. sit in the drivers seat, move your head over to the far left edge of the seat
2. adjust the left mirror so you can see just a little of your back end
3. move your head to the far right edge of the seat
4. adjust the right mirror so you can see just a little of your back end

BLIND SPOTS GONE!!!!

It takes a little while to get used to this... but you'll be able to eventually tell within inches where other cars are compared to your rear bumper, with no blindspots, and no more turning round!
You'll see cars coming up from behind in your review, and eventually you'll see half the car in the rearview, and the other half or so in the side view! Its GREAT!

If you couldn't tell... I really enjoy this setup, especially merging around in crazy miami!

Peace
-Eric

Please tell me you're kidding about this Florida "law".... I think it's funny that there could even be a law that says that you can't turn your head. What's next? You can't take one hand off the steering wheel? I pity the manual trans drivers in that case.

BTW, here in New York, you are supposed to turn your head to check blind spots ON MANY occasions, such as pulling away from a curb into traffic.

Re: Coupe Side Mirror Blind spot?

It was something like your not allowed to take your view from away from the road in front of you while moving in the vehicle... so if your not in traffic yet then you can, but if lets say your changing lanes on a highway.. you can't
Its one of those stupid laws, another Fl one: anyone who makes a noose and is caught with it by police is supposed to be arrested and put in jail for 24 hours, and a $250 fine... thats a really old Fl law, the forgotten laws are the best!

Peace

Re: Stupid Laws

Not to hijack this thread, but I had previously come across this list of stupid laws. Florida does seem to have more than their share:

- Alabama:
1. It is illegal for a driver to be blindfolded while operating a vehicle.

- Alaska:
1. It is illegal to push a live moose out of a moving airplane.

- California:
1. Community leaders passed an ordinance that makes it illegal for anyone to try and stop a child from playfully jumping over puddles of water.

- Connecticut:
1. You can be stopped by the police for biking over 65 miles per hour.
2. You are not allowed to walk across a street on your hands.

- Florida:
1. Women may be fined for falling asleep under a hair dryer, as can the salon owner.
2. A special law prohibits unmarried women from parachuting on Sunday or she shall risk arrest, fine, and/or jailing.
3. If an elephant is left tied to a parking meter, the parking fee has to be paid just as it would for a vehicle.
4. It is illegal to sing in a public place while attired in a swimsuit.
5. Men may not be seen publicly in any kind of strapless gown.
6. Any form of sexual contact other than missionary position is a misdomeanor. (This is still a law. There have been several cases of people being brought up on these charges in the past 5 years alone. If the police enter a home with a warrent for some other crime and catch the 'culprits' in action, they can, and are, brought up on those charges.)

- Illinois:
1. It is illegal for anyone to give lighted cigars to dogs, cats, and other domesticated animal kept as pets.

- Indiana:
1. Bathing is prohibited during the winter.
2. Citizens are not allowed to attend a movie house or theater nor ride in a public streetcar within at least four hours after eating garlic.

- Iowa:
1. Kisses may last for as much as, but no more than, five minutes.

- Kentucky:
1. By law, anyone who has been drinking is "sober" until he or she "cannot hold onto the ground."
2. It is illegal to transport an ice cream cone in your pocket.

- Louisiana:
1. It is illegal to rob a bank and then shoot at the bank teller with a water pistol.
2. Biting someone with your natural teeth is "simple assault," while biting someone with your false teeth is "aggravated assault."

- Massachusetts:
1. Mourners at a wake may not eat more than three sandwiches.
2. Snoring is prohibited unless all bedroom windows are closed and securely locked.
3. An old ordinance declares goatees illegal unless you first pay a special license fee for the privilege of wearing one in public.
4. Taxi drivers are prohibited from making love in the front seat of their taxi during their shifts.

- Nebraska:
1. A parent can be arrested if his child cannot hold back a burp during a church service.

- New Mexico:
1. Females are strictly forbidden to appear unshaven in public.

- New York:
1. A fine of $25 can be levied for flirting. This old law specifically prohibits men from turning around on any city street and looking "at a woman in that way." A second conviction for a crime of this magnitude calls for the violating male to be forced to wear a "pair of horse-blinders" wherever and whenever he goes outside for a stroll.

- North Dakota:
1. Beer & pretzels can't be served at the same time in any bar or restaurant.

- Ohio:
1. Women are prohibited from wearing patent leather shoes in public.

- Oklahoma:
1. Violators can be fined, arrested or jailed for making ugly faces at a dog.
2. Females are forbidden from doing their own hair without being licensed by the state.
3. Dogs must have a permit signed by the mayor in order to congregate in groups of three or more on private property.

- Pennsylvania:
1. A special cleaning ordinance bans housewives from hiding dirt and dust under a rug in a dwelling.
2. No man may purchase alcohol without written consent from his wife.

- Tennessee:
1. It is illegal to lasso a catfish in Tennessee!! (Julie.Miller)

- Texas:
1. A city ordinance states that a person cannot go barefoot without first obtaining a special five-dollar permit.
2. It is illegal to take more than three sips of beer at a time while standing.

- Vermont:
1. Lawmakers made it obligatory for everybody to take at least one bath each week -- on Saturday night.

- Washington:
1. All lollipops are banned.
2. A law to reduce crime states: "It is mandatory for a motorist with criminal intentions to stop at the city limits and telephone the chief of police as he is entering the town.
3. In King County, in Seattle Washington, it is illegal to sit on a man's lap on a metro bus, unless you are married.
4. Vancouver, WA has a city law that requires all motor vehicles to carry anchors... as an emergency brake. (Ted Timmons)

- West Virginia:
1. No children may attend school with their breath smelling of "wild onions."
