Curb weight difference G35 to 350Z

where does the Z lose the 300lbs? (and therefore gain the 7 extra hp out of the same engine?)

The cars are supposedly built on the same playform, but it seems the wheel base on the G35 is slightly longer. Has anyone looking into this?

The extra 300 pounds comes from the G having a little bit longer wheel base thus, a little more sheet metal as well as a back seat.
the 7 extra hp in the Z comes from it's intake system and ECU.. With the Z tube and either a drop in filter or popcharcer, you can gain @ 7 or 8 extra hp from the engine.

The Z isn't 300 lbs lighter, it is only 130 lbs lighter(350Z Touring 6MT vs. G35C 6MT/Premium). The wheelbase isn't just slightly longer, try over 8". Our cars have 13" more length in addition.

thanks, I didnt realize the length difference was as much.

G - Base model 3,416 lbs
Leather model 3,422 lbs
Leather 6MT model 3,435 lbs

Z - 3,188-3,247

so 200 not 300

i would think it would lose most of its weight from not having 4 seats... G35c is a 4 str while a 350z is a 2 str roadster... that could be it

My Gcoupe leather does not have the premium package, that means no sunroof and two less speakers and I beleive no extra amplifier. It weighed in at 3,370 lbs with half a tank. I also have the 17" wheels.

The curb weights listed in the borchures are rarely accurate for motor vehicles. Options, local emissions equipement and even fuel level effect final weight figures. I use the weights from magazine road tests since they are the actual weight of the vehicle on the day they are tested, not innacurate estimates. Car and Drivers 350Z Touring they tested in December last year weight 3364 lbs. In a similar test in April, their G35C 6-MT Premium weighed 3500 lbs.
