Ticking Noise ????

Someone please tell me what the hell this is? Drove home from work tonight and heard it through the entire ride home. Parked it. Shut off the engine. Removed my key. Closed the doors and still lots of ticking. I cant pinpoint exactly where its coming from. It sounds like its coming from EVERYWHERE underneath the car. Someone please tell me what it could be or what I should ask the delaer to check since I am going in next week for my first oil change service and I have about 2000 mi. on the vehicle.

Re: Ticking Noise ????

It's common for cars to have heat dissipation after a good drive. Since your car is still new, it's still breaking in plus all the coating is finally burning off.

Re: Ticking Noise ????

I think I know what you are talking about....
Is it like a very weak fade ticking sound that sounds like a ticking clock?
I have that sound sometime too, and it's driving me nuts. Not because I can hear it (it's so fade I barely hear it anyways), but it's just the fact that I don't know where it's coming from. I think there are few things that might be causing this ticking sound: either, the clock, the NAV, the DVD-NAV drive, or maybe the stereo. At this point I'm clueless, but I'm intending to ask my dealer on my up coming first oil change.

Re: Ticking Noise ????

It has absolutely nothing to do with the clock or NAV or stereo.

I believe it is heat dissipation as mentioned before. I have asked around and most ppl say its the engine cooling off.

I will keep asking around and also have my dealer check it out when I go in for an oil change this tuesday.

Re: Ticking Noise ????

I don't know what ticking sounds you guys are talking about but what I have in my coupe is not the heat being dissipated. - I have that sound too - it's more like a popping sound. The ticking sound that I have can only be heard from within the car and can be heard when I first get into the car early in the morning even before I turn my engine on. It's sounds like an electronic sound (something digital), definitely not a mechanical sound. Again, I'm fully aware of the heat dissipation sound - I know what it sounds like, and of course it can be heard after a short drive when you get out of the car. The one I'm talking about, can be heard even when the car hasn't been driven yet....

Re: Ticking Noise ????

I think the sound you are hearing is probably coming from the exhaust/cat system on the car...If i drive my car for more than 30 minutes and then park..I get that same noise..I can not hear it in the car unless my window is open..but I don't think it is anything to worry about..every new car I have owned always had these symptom/noises...hope this helps!!!!2old4this
