Re: waranty question

Good question, but the answer depends on the individual dealers.
My dealer is cool, and knows that if the parts are installed properly, then there's no issues. He even installs these parts in his service department if that's needed.
Other dealerships I've heard of just freak out over any changes or mods, and don't entertain anything other than stock.

You'll have to check around with other customers, or even 'feel' out the dealer yourself.
I always keep my stock parts just in case.
Good luck

Re: waranty question

Funny story with my Denali. It was not even two months old and my driver side exhaust manifold collector gasket was leaking. Simple little gasket swap. I took it in and an hour later they called me and said they wont be warrantying the work. I was like what? WHY?

The service manager stated that I had installed an aftermarket intake kit which increased airflow into the engine, therefore working the exhaust components harder, and its because of that this gasket blew out.

I was like no way did he just say that. I mean come on! Its not like I installed a supercharger or anything! We're talking about a K&N Filter Charger, nothing more!

I went down there and began to question his automotive knowledge and started to make a huge scene! I demanded to have a GM rep come out and validate this and they said they couldn't for a week, so I was like I dont care, for every day you have my car here for BS reasons, I want a loaner car. I was willing to wait to put the guy to shame. He went to the back and came back and said they'll make an exception this one time.

I wrote a nasty letter to both the dealership and GMC direct, as well as CC'ed it to the BB and SEMA whom were a great deal of help! The service dept issued me a response three months later with a letter of appology and a 20% discount on my next visit. I never went back there again!

And for the record, after I did supercharge my truck, I blew out the stock rear end and the dealerships whom I was now going to, warrantied the rear even with the supercharger (knowing very well what caused it). It didnt last too long either, as I replaced it with a Dana 60, but the point is - it all comes down to the dealerships and your relationship with them.

If they know by helping you they can keep you as a potential customer, most will.

PS: A TSB went out shortly after for the replacement of collector gaskets...

Re: waranty question

The warranty has a blanket disclaimer that any malfunction resulting from an aftermarket part or mod isn't covered. I guess it gives dealers an out if they don't want to honor it.
