Okay...well, I went to my credit union this morning to apply for financing, and it's my luck that the person who needed to be there...wasn't! I have to wait until Monday! I also went to the dealer and applied there. According to them, they will DEFINITELY beat the credit union (wishful thinking). They also said that they would call me back in an hour. That was 3 hours ago! I'm dying here!!!

Sure the dealer will beat a credit union rate. As long as you have something for them to beat, and you have good credit, they will do it (they still make money on the financing anyway).

For instance, right now my credit union is offering 4.75% on new car loans. Since I had that rate when I went in, I got 4.4% from them. But until I showed them the lower rate, they were going to give me 5.19%.

It's always a good idea to have more than one source for everything - it gives you negotiating room.

I guess I'm used to a little better rates from our CU... we got 1.9% from them, and the dealer wouldn't budge below it. I love playing people against eachother, but half of the equation was pretty uncooperative.
