I cant really decide. Im looking for a black coupe w/auto and navigation, and have actually found a couple....but their manual. Does the manual shift like a luxury car (nice and smooth with an easy clutch) or does it work your knee everytime you drive somewhere. I drive pretty frequently and was going to go auto for sure, but those brembos and the cars im finding with the options i want are leading my otherwise. What do you think?

I know this probably isn't what you want to hear, but it just depends what you want and would be happy with a while down the road. I myself would get the 6MT because I enjoy driving a manual car. When I drive an auto now I feel like I'm always forgetting something :-p But, with the manumatic, you can stay in gear and hold rpms when needed, so it's much better than most autos. And when stuck in heavy traffic the auto is always nice to have too....
If you keep looking I'm sure you can find your car.

Before I got my G35, I always owned manuals. This is the first auto I've owned in about 20 years. I got it because I have a long commute in stop and go traffic and I thought driving an auto would be easier on my left knee (I'm not getting any younger) and overall less aggravating. While I LOVE my G35, a part of me kind of regrets not getting the stick. The auto is fun to drive and drives great, but I just can't help feeling that I've given up an element of control that I always had driving a manual, even with the manumatic. I guess it all boils down to what you are used to and what you prefer.
I haven't driven a G35 6mt yet since I was looking for an auto from the beginning, so I can't comment on the clutch or stick action, but I've heard it shifts effortlessly.

Easy. If you are good at manual shifting and don't encounter too much stop and go traffic, get the 6MT. I was going to get an MT car until I discovered that I still suck at manual shifting a car (stalled an RX-8 out of the first gear about 5 times during a test drive). Then I started thinking about all the traffic jams I usually encounter and nixed the MT idea. If stick shifting was second nature to me I probably would have opted for one though...damn, how come bikes are a lot easier to shift than cars? I got the auto and I love it with no regrets. I didn't get the car to race it. If I feel a little racy I put it MMode and walla. Had sticks all my life and will never get another one. I guess even maturity has a price.

If you have to ask that question, get the 5AT. I'm surprised that 6MTs are easier for you to find???? I have a 6MT, but then again, I wouldn't even think of owning an automatic. But, that's me. My last car was a Lexus SC300, 5MT. That was a very rare automobile. The vast majority of people want automatics. Just remember, whatever you decide, you'll have to live with every day you own that car. Get a 5AT, you'll enjoy it a lot more. Good Luck.

Heh, don't feel bad, I nearly stalled an RX-8 on a test drive too. Then I laid down a good patch of rubber at the next stop sign. I think the problem is that I rely on engine sound to tell me the rpms, and the rotary is real quiet at low rpms and sounds different in general.
Re: AT vs. MT for the original poster, if you're even asking this question then you're not passionate about MT, which means you should probably go AT. This car has an extremely good AT, and it comes alot closer to its MT equivalent's performance than most AT-equipped sports cars. The AT is no dog.
On the other hand, if you're just intimidated by the MT due to lack of experience... well, that's a tough one to answer. This is not one of the easier MTs to learn to drive on. The "go-pedal" is very sensitive. Even my AT sometimes shoots forward faster than I intended. But you can't go through life shying away from MT, especially if you like fast cars. If that's the case, at least learn how to passably drive stick before you decide, so you know what you're missing. Personally, I decided that I wanted one AT car and one MT, and that's been the most satisfying arrangement (although, sadly, I now need to reduce my fleet to one car. I have no idea what I'm going to do).

I drove both before I decided on the AT. The MT was a lot of fun to drive but I really didn't want deal with it all the time. For fun go with the MT for the everyday drive go AT.
yeah, i think im just sick of driving manual cars for the last 4 years. I think im going to go w/ the auto

hmm i thought lexus never made MT SC model... i thought only MT car in lexus line up you can get is IS300 and i believe lexus just came out with MT even in IS300 not long ago(2002 i think)... anyway.... a dealer very close to my house always has at least 5 MT coupes in the lot... and around 15 AT coupes... and i seen as many as 10MT in the lots and 9AT coupes MT is pretty easy to find around my area... plus right now dealer has MT coupe w/ nav and they don't have AT w/ nav... but i only seen 2MT coupes so far on the road... 6MT is not the first choice in MD... come to MD to buy 6MT if you guys can't find one...

My last car was a Lexus SC300 5MT. It was a '93. As I said they were very rare, and they stopped making them in early '94. Remember, at that time the Supra and SC300 shared the same engine. So it really was not big deal for them to put the 5 speed in the SC300.

4 of my last 5 cars are/were MT. my only AT is my daily driver and that's because they offered me a great deal on it and i sit in traffic. otherwise i am an mt fan.

Hi, I'm new to this site, and I'll be purchasing a G35 AT in March. I gotta say, you guys are totally different from many other forums...usually when someone asks "should I get the AT or MT" they get flamed and ridiculed because they are not getting the MT. Anyways, nice site you guys have here....I come from newcelica.org and I'm a moderator over there under the same SN. Hope to post more as the day gets closer to my new G35.
