Maintenance Under 30k Miles?

Other than oil changes, is there really any other required maintenance under 30k miles?

I bought a used 2004 coupe over a year ago when it had 17k miles and have had the oil changed every 5000 miles. I don't drive it very much and have about 25k on it now.

The dealer keeps calling and tries to set up an appointment for maintenance. Do I need anything more than the regular oil and filter change at this time?

Thx,

You really don't have to do anything else until about 35k. Depending on if you are manual or not, you will have to change your tranny fluid, gear oil, and differential oil. Besides that you shouldn't have to do anything until about 60k. As long as you are on top of your oil changes and check your fluids periodically, there should be no reason for you to visit the dealer unless it's a warranty issue. These cars can really take a beating so I wouldn't worry to much about it unless you drive like Shummacher everytime you get behind the wheel!

Thanks Tru -G. I drive like an old lady (well, because I am one) so I should be ok.

I'm pretty clueless when it comes to cars and maintenance and probably fall for the dealers' scare stories far too often.

Yeah...I wouldn't worry too much about what the dealer tells you. If you ever have any questions at all, most of the members on this message board are very knowledgable and usually very good about giving advice when you want it...sometime even when you don't want it.

But no problem at all. You are more than welcome to PM me whenever you have any questions. My G is at about 62k miles now and running as strong as can be.

BTW, if you are changing your oil every 5000 miles, I hope that you are using synthetic oil on your engine. I prefer AMSOil or Motul. Mobil 1 is a very popular brand as well but I use AMSOil religiously. It is more expensive than the others but I feel it is very well worth it. Also, get the K&N oil filter, their are several applications for your car, just ask for the larger sized filter and the guy at the shop should be able to help you out.

If you are just going to the dealer to change your oil, chances are they are using conventional dino oil. If that is the case you should be changing your oil every 3750 miles.

Have fun and drive safe out there.

I'd go with what the owner's manual says.
