just not my lucky day...
just not my lucky day...
just thought i'd share my grief...i was mounting my snow tires (ASA KA3's) that i got from the tire rack in anticipation of the big snowfall tonite in NY...here are the problems i ran into in a nutshell...
1) rims were damn hard to seat and catch the lugnuts to the studs. after much fiddling, i was able to mount them or so i thought...
2)as soon as i finish mounting the last snow tire, i hear a loud hissing noise form another tire. damn it, the tire had a huge leak from in between the rim and sidewall. hopefully it just didnt seat properly and i can put more air into it and be done with that problem.
3)i take off the damn rim only to find that i had stripped a good 1/4 inch off of one of the studs because it didnt catch properly...
wat to do? anyone have an idea on if i can get one stud replaced and how much it cost or do i have to replace the whole hub? sorry for biatching, i just had to vent since smoking all the cigarettes in the world isnt going to solve this problem...wish me luck!

Re: just not my lucky day...
Yikes, that stinks.
Not to worry though. Stud replacement is easy, and common. Any quality tire installation center can do it. It sounds like you may have another problem though, if you are having trouble properly seating the rim on the hub. Maybe have them look into that as well.
Good luck.

I installed the same setup last week. ASA K3 rims with Blizzak LM22's. I was confused at first as the front tires we'rnt seating properly. I removed the extra "yellow lug" they put there so the rear tires dont go on the front in error. After that all was smooth.
I got to test the tires this morning in the latest NY snowstorm (I love global warming). Driving the G with these tires is night and day. I had the pilots during the 1st storm of the season and was scared for my life. The blizzaks are wonderful.
Good Luck.

"Any quality tire installation center can do it".
I went to Discount Tire and was told to go to a muffler shop. The tire shops do not have the press to remove the stud and put the new one back in.

Re: just not my lucky day...
in regards to that bolt they put, i think that if u look at the rims, there are slots so that the bolt will fit into it...as for the stud, i'm gonna take it to my brother's job and just get it re-threaded...as for the flat tire, i put more air into it and all is well...i'm kinda scurred now after you said u removed the bolt and all was well, i hope i didnt screw anything else up that i dont see...but in any event, the rims seated perfectly flush with the hub, so i'm not as pissed as i was lastnite because a 20 minute job ended up taking me 2 hours, hehe...and i drove around lastnite with the blizzak WS's...they are really good in the snow, i was driving comfortably @ 50 mph with snow covered highways...it can get a lil spongy when u change lanes, feels like the car is fishtailing a bit, but with these tires it feels very controllable, i actually had fun whipping the tail out on the highway because you can control the tail with the traction of these tires...i live in a hilly area of westchester, and i got around lastnite and today with no problems of getting stuck and stopping was not an issue...thanks for the replies
