G35 or ???

I know you all might have a slightly biased opinion but I was hoping for you to look at the facts.

I am currently overseas serving our country in Kuwait but the moment I get back I will be purchasing a new car to replace my wonderful 98 Eclipse GSX.

I have been a considering a few options and want to run them by you and get your thoughts on it.

First off I am here and obviously considering a G35 6MT probably a 2005 model by the time I return. My other options are as follows:
2005 BMW M3 SMG II
Now I know these two cars are not in the same league so I would be thinking about adding a supercharger to the G35.
Lastly, playing on the rumors is a 2005 G35 based on the Skyline GTR and the performance that it would surely carry and hopefully be AWD.

Given these choices, what would you suggest and why?

Thanks for you valued opinions.
Scott

Re: G35 or ???

Honestly mate,

I don't think you can compare the two cars. The G35, in all it's guises is targeted competition for the BMW330 not the M3. The beauty of the G is in the pricing, with performance rather than name brand with performance. If your looking at comparos your better off comparing the AudiRS4 with the M3 versus the G.
Having said that, I've owned two Bimmers (328 and 330) and an Audi (S4) and for the sheer bang for the buck, not too mention incredible performance and drop dead good looks, I'd take the G any day of the week.
If I was in M3 price league I'd consider it, but at almost 20 grand more it's a different catergory altogether.

Cheers.

I was in the same situation as you. I was in Italy for 4 years and waiting to buy a new car as soon as I returned to the states. If you have the money to get the '05 M3 I'd get it. The GT-R rumor mill says '07. I don't think you can get a better car than the G for the money but the M3 has always been a great car if you can afford it.

Scott,
I wouldn't hold your breath too long for the GT-R Skyline. Many great Japanese cars have never made to our shores as US production models even though the Rumor Mills said other wise. Plus the rumored cost was in the $60K range from what I remember.

My opinion is this: If you want a outstanding car the out of the box will own most anything on the road and price is not any issue I say the M3 any day. I think alot of peeps here are admirers of that car and BMW in general.

Now if you want a great value that will still go fast and is not as common (my opinion) as the M3 I pick the G. You then take half the of the 20 G's you save on it and mod that sucker till you can kill M3's all day long.

They are both great cars so either way your gold I think. Also another thing I have listened to both and I actually prefer the sound of the G to the M3's louder raspy tone. Good luck!

It all comes down to money issues. More $ will buy you a nicer coupe a G35 to M3 to 911TT. If you can wait AA Tuner is coming out with a Turbo for the M3. Id wait too for a nice turbo on the G. Supercharger is, well, less efficient. If you are going to mod your car might as well wait a little to get the best mod out there. Must be nice not having to pay taxes on income :-)
