somewhat New Member....

Hey guys, I think i joined like forever ago but never really posted. My name is alex and I am 18 years of age. Not a huge g35 guy but generally a pretty big car guy myself. I enjoy working on them and building them and currently have a 1994 mazda rx7 (~2200lbs and 500+whp rotary love) that I built but my mother drives a 2005 g35c with everything (6MT, navi, bose... etc.) that she bought new in may of 05.

Now, could anyone tell me if they have had/heard of an excessive oil burning issue on the vq35 with the 6MT? We have experienced terrible issues for over a year and with only 19k we spun a rod bearing (i identified that noise myself, contacted infiniti and was instructed to just drive it as normal) then blew the engine completely not 5 miles later. Infiniti took car of us pretty well as my brother inlaw was a nissan mechanical engineer. This all however led to something very cool, they are replacing the engine with 1 of 3 modified engines that nissan has produced to try to fix the problem while at the same time testing a product on a customer car. The "modifications" however were "confidential" when I asked. We get the car back on monday and I will be sure to post some pics of this special engine.

So again, Hello all, anyone hear of oil burning issues? anyone have an idea of what this modified engine would consist of? My brother inlaw, being a former nissan engineer, had no idea but is talking to some buddies still at nissan to see what is going on. I personally think this is going to be fun.

Another question, (sorry for so many) is there any datalogging programs to use on the g35c? (openECU, tori, etc.?)

there is a huge thread on oil consumption in the tech area. It's a problem in alot of 6MT's any year, but it was more apparent in the 05+ cars. There have also been a few cases of 5AT's having the same problem, but it's rare. After hassling with the dealer some and doing an oil consumption test, they will replace the motor under warranty.
