extended warranty worth it??

alright.. i talked to a dealership about extended warranties and they gave a "tempting" offer.. atleast it seems tempting

my car: 04, 19k miles, mostly all stock... warranty until may 08

their offer: 72k miles/48mo warranty on top of my current warranty for $1700.

but they said the moment i hit 20,001 miles, offer is dropped to only 60kmiles/36mo warranty for same price...

im willing to pay for the extra warranty... but then i thought about my possible mods..

my plans: (keeping the car for many years to come) tein s.tech, hks hi power exhausts, sway bars, spacer, grounding kit, venair silicon hoses... and what i believe will make my warranty useless... N20 w/ UTEC... (i dont plan on doing tt/sc/st until i know for sure my warranty is dead)

im thinking the nitrous setup alone will pretty much screw up any warranty repairs on my car...

80% of me says im right...

prove me wrong? opinions?

great threads, and kinda what i expected to hear... but my main concern was about if i put nitrous in mine, how would it affect my warrantied parts... i understand that in the long run the ext warranty would benefit a lot, but if they say nitrous tore my engine parts up and wont fix anything but a seat motor or window motor, id rather not bother with it at all...

I bought the extended warranty @ 39k...my car now has 46k...I think theyre pretty lenient with aftermarket parts. If i'm not mistaken my sales rep told me they dont void the warranty...i might be wrong though, ask them what the deal is with aftermarket parts.

I bought the extended warranty on my 03 and glad I did on the new year model because at 78,000 I need a new engine...Worth it for me. On my 05 FX I did not buy one because the FX has been out a while. I paid 1200 for the warranty and the engine cost more than 8 G's.

Nitrous + Warranty = No go witht he dealer. Any modifications to your engine puts you out of commission for a warranty.

ah, that was the main part i wanted answered... i did talk to the dealer already and they said any non-aftermarket parts are covered under warranty, everything that i do to it isnt of course... but just wasnt sure how much the nitrous would affect the engine as a whole..

looks like ill be on my own for repairs after may

I would get the warranty if you def. plan on keeping your car. Just make sure you get it before 20k b/c @ every 10k mile interval, price goes up. Also make sure it's 0 deductible. Nitrous + car = no warranty coverage.

i do plan on keeping the car, but i also plan on putting nitrous as well as many other mods... so really, by the time i finish with most of my mods, the only thing the warranty would cover is like a window motor lol

Wow I didn't realize this was a problem on the pre-05's. I'd better keep a better watch on my oil...

Usually people don't plan to insure a superior product, Infiniti of late makes reliable cars, nonetheless a breakdown is possible so it's a matter of personal preferences.
A decent deal would start under $1500 for at least 60 month/60k miles.
During that span you will need new pads, tires, fluid replacement, at least one tune up and possibly some defective part likely to be replaced.
Might be worth considering...I'm actually checking deals in the DC area, so far the cheapest is around 2k, little pricey for me...

I'd definitely talk to the dealer in regards to future modifications and what type of complications it may pose. FYI...brand new coupe off the lot, I purchased my extended warranty for $1200 with 7yr/100k.
