Extreme Shaking

Well decided to put the pedal to the metal the other day just for fun, when I noticed something that I know shouldn't be right.

At around 100 to ~110 MPH, my entire dashbord starts to shake violently. and it gets worse the faster I go, Does anyone know what this could be caused by? I use to be able to go that fast with no problem. I did recently get new back tires, could that be causing it?

Any input is greatly appreciated!

It's generally tires out of balance, or a warped rim. A tire shop will be able to tell which one, or both. Low profile tires, aftermarket rims, and pot-holes tend to mix like oil and water.

There are also several more extremely UNlikely problems, like u-joints, tie-rod ends blah blah blah. Not likely at all on a newer car in any event.

A car that is misaligned generally will cause tire wear and/or the car to pull. Toe will cause pull more than camber usually, (as will caster in some cases) and camber... well, we all know what camber does.

In most cases a car being out of align will not cause shaking.

A trip to a reputable tire shop will answer your questions. They can put the wheel on a balancing machine and balance the tire while monitoring how true the wheel is. While they have the wheels off, they can look at tire wear and give you a reasonable estimate of whether the car needs an alignment. However like I said before the alignment rarely, if ever, has a direct effect on shaking.

OK - so a mis-aligned car can cause shaking - by the toll that takes on the tires. Tire wear or balance may be an issue - and if it's wear patterns, it is related to alignment or possibly even shocks.

Start with a tire check and balance...go from there.

for fun lol

Thanks for all the help guys. It is probably due to tire balance, because my car has about 15,000 miles on it, and I havnt hit any potholes, and it just started happening after I got new back tires. BTW Im on stock OEM 19's.

Ill head over to Goodroads (dont know if you guys know about them) but they deal in rims and tires, they should be able to tell. Thanks again!

Goodroads is a really good shop. They will take care of you right away. I had the same problem (at 80mph) and it was a balancing issue. Although I have aftermarket wheels
