removing door moldings?

hi everyone i just bought an 04 g35 coupe. i already started doin some mods but i have the ugly door moldings that go down the side of the car. i want to get rid of them. should i have it done professionally or is something i can do myself. is there any paint damage when you take them off. the car is black. i searched and didn't see anything on the site accept that majority thinks like i do to get rid of them. any info is appreciated. thanks

its double sided tape I believe, so some floss or fishing line and a hair dryer will be sufficient to remove them, along with some goo gone for the leftover adhesive

being black, I would bet that there will be visable line where it once was, after all it is 3 yrs old, and being so narrow as the molding is. Good luck. Can bet a $100, within one day of its removal, U will have a door ding...

You don't really even need a heat gun. Just leave the car parked in the summer sun for a few hours then slowly peel them off. That's what I did with mine. There was a slight line showing the outline of the molding once I pulled them off, but after a couple of washes and waxing the car, the lines have now completely disappeared and you can not tell that they were ever there. I had mine on my car for about 2 years before I removed them.

They're an option that's not very common. Some dealerships slap them on and then add another $200 to the bottom line.

lol listen guys stop giving him a hard time... but seriously, if you really don't know or don't trust yourself, just have it done at a shop...

but as others have mentioned, since it's a 3yr old car, the paint right undernearth might show a bit darker since it hasnt been exposed to sunlight unlike the rest of the car... paint fade

i just took mine off no more than 2 weeks ago and if u rush u will peel off some of the clear coat.. maybe even ur paint, however it is VERY and i mean VERY easy to peel them off. Hair dryer, WD40, and some patience did the trick for me, mine is an 04 IP and it was a tad yellow where the moldings were however i washed my car once and waxed it seems to have blended with the whole car. Don't sweat it, just go on a warm/ Warmer day *the colder the harder it is to heat the molding and the more chances of the molding accidently pulling out too fast and peeling from of the clear coat* with a hair dryer in one hand and wd40 in the other, spray the wd40 give it about 5 mins, use a screwdriver wraped in a cloth to get the edge off and then it's all hand on from there, warm a bit at a time and slowly and gently peel, repeat the process as many times as needed. It's good bonding time with the G . use bug and tar remover after, then wax, and then dry. that's about it.

Yes you should be able to get rid of the line, I did it on my 03 LR a few weeks after I bought it in june of 2010 and the line were barely visible before wash and wax...

All that is needed is heat gun, fishing line, and goo gone

Pictures for reference:
