I don't have to with my car...btw
In the autostick mode they are at redline, and it does redline very quickly, and yes it does sound nasty bouncing off that rev limiter and it will screw up your tranny as jtrain said haha, and hola jtrain.

Is your intellict so low that the minute you hit an unknown word you have to go to google and type it in as opposed to figuring out its meaning by looking at the context it's used in, not to mention looking at the example I give? Yes I made that word up I don't know the exact terminology for it but I didn't think there were people stupid enough not to be able to understand what I was saying (once I changed overrev to overshift) Thanks jaysan for spelling it out for this idiot.

I sugggest you back up and recant your statements. These guys have been here longer and are a valuable asset to this forum, you on the other hand have not provided anything useful. Check your attitude.
It doesn't sound like many of you have been to the track yet. Here are my findings.
First things first though, there's no such thing as "locking" the torque converter on a launch. When a torque converter locks, it means there's a direct mechanical connection between tranny and motor (just like a manual). If the TC did this from a start, the engine would stall. Torque converter lock-up only occurs at cruising rpms in 3rd, 4th, and 5th and above certain rpms at WOT in 3rd and 4th.
If you let the tranny shift itself, you're going to find that your times and MPHs won't be that good. You need to manually hold 2nd and hold 3rd the ENTIRE duration of the run. Don't let the car shift to 4th because it will hurt ET and MPH. If let to own vices, the 5AT will shift into 4th at around 90mph. That's no good. 3rd can go to about 100-101mph. I tap the limiter in 3rd just as I pass the finish, sometime right at the finish.
As for a launch, I've tried both off idle launches and brake stall launches. Off idle launches result in 14.6-14.7s with 2.3 60 foots and brake stall launches result in 14.3-14.4s with 2.1 60 foots. There is no difference in MPH. My launch technique is this:
1) Roll up to the line and stage
2) Foot on brake
3) Foot on brake, foot on gas to the floor
4) Release brake about 1 second later.
The car comes off the line at aroudn 2500-2600rpms. If you sit and wait for too long with your foot on the brake and gas, you end up building too much heat in the torque converter and you'll loose some of the snap of the launch, plus it's pretty bad on the TC to sit there with loaded up for more than 3 seconds (according to the FSM).
