Gas......

Is it normal to tap the gas pedal and hear the engine rev lounder, but the car doesnt respond, on an auto. Just tapping , not really stepping and holding it. Might be a dumb question....=)

Re: Gas......

Sounds like the torque converter absorbed it, as they tend to do for small, brief throttle inputs. It's one of the reasons why I prefer manual trannies (please God don't let me start another MT vs AT war). In a manual, the engine is basically hard-coupled to the wheels by the drivetrain. In an AT, it's got a torque converter inbetween which allows the engine to spin at a different speed than the tranny, and enables it to run while the car is stopped, among other things. It also delays and softens throttle response slightly as you observed. For larger, longer inputs the TC will "firm up" and feel a lot ike an MT, especially a modern AT like the G's. Very small, incremental inputs will be noticeably less responsive in an AT than an MT. I find the razor sharp throttle response in my 6MT coupe to be one of the more satisfying aspects of the car in ordinary driving.

Re: Gas......

Yeah, it's the torque converter. The torque absorber.
