And to ma_sha1 i doubt the aerodynamics and weight loss with the M3 mirrors shaved time off ur 1/4mile times.

My drivers side mirror cracked in the same place about a year ago. Don't know how it happened. I noticed the crack one day and it got bigger and bigger and finally fell off. I don't know how it happened, but maybe it was the car wash.
I paid @$150.00 for the mirror and used everything but the painted shell. I swapped that out with the new mirror. It didn't take long and I didn't have to have it painted. No problems since then, but it is a cheap design. Good luck.
