bi hid

Im planning on setting up another set of hid for the fog/hibeam area. Since its going to be using extra wattage do i need to do anything else than just installing the ballast to ensure electical saftey for this car?

Re: bi hid

But it won't!!! It uses less power than the halogen bulbs about 30% less. So as long as you not running both halogens and HID in the same housing you're fine!

Re: bi hid

Yeh you should have no problems..hids use only 35 watts of power compared to about 65 watts of a conventional bulbs...so if u turn both hids on, u only use as much power as one regular bulb...

Re: bi hid

I'm not trying to fire at anyone or anything, but please do some research before making a reply regarding to HID's. If you are bored and have nothing to do and want to learn about HID's, read http://faq.auto.light.tripod.com. Having two sets of HID ballasts can result in harness damage...maybe not day one or day two after it's installed, but over time, the wiring in the harness can degrade because you are running more current through them and they thermal cycle as you turn them on and off. That is why most people would built a custom relay wiring harness when they're doing conversions or retrofits. It is much safer to spend a few hours building a wiring harness rather than having to dig out the messed up oem one later on...plus the oem harness will probably cost you a few hundred bucks to buy. But anyway, I just wanted to shed some light on those who are not familiar with HID's. I hope I didn't offend anyone who replied to this thread.

Re: bi hid

Its not drawing any more current past the trasformer anyway, any good kit prevents this! And it uses less power than having the fog or high on the same time as the HID's! Its fine!
Edited by merlin on 02/08/04 01:20 PM.

Re: bi hid

GOOD GOD!
That is BRIGHT!
That setup puts the quad HID setus in my TL-S to shame.
Do you ever get pulled over for that?

Re: bi hid

Yes, it is bright. Nope, haven't had any problems w/ getting pulled over here in the Bay Area. I use it as my Hi-Beam when someone pisses me off...........and believe me, it works! Basically paves the road for me when I'm in a hurry.....hehe
