Forum Suggestion
I was thinking, although I dont know how possible it is with the bandwidth and capabilities of this website, it would be really great to get a java chat room up for the G35driver.com forum members, where we could chat live to one another. I think it would bring a new aspect to this website, and an even better way to get to know one another. Webmasters please consider this and let me know what you think. Everyone else tell me what you think as well.
Thanks
Mitch

Re: Forum Suggestion
We've done a couple of chat room meetings. We always have full rooms but the content is questionable. Everyone tends to get into the chatroom mentality (I'm just as guilty) and it ends up being a bunch of mindless statements. The best way to get to know the people here is through meets. I've driven over 2 hours to meet some new G owners and it was well worth it.

Re: Forum Suggestion
Thanks for the suggestion We've kicked this idea around for quite a while, and it comes up about once a month or so (since I've been here, at least). The main reason we've not implemented one, other than logistics, is that the Forums create a venue in which people can share information and express opinons, and it's archived. In a chat room, barring keeping every second of transcript or having a mod on duty 24/7, there's no real archive or record of the information that is handed around. This is a key element to the site-- the ability to check and see if a topic has been discussed, see resolutions to problems, etc.
Now, as for chatting, I know there are several members who chat through the AIM client software all the time. I have many of the members here on my buddy list (GeoBau, if you want it), and often get invites to chats. It's a more social environment, and a lot of interesting things get discussed. So far, however, I've seen a few interesting ideas/solutions expressed in the chat that never made it to the board-- that is a primary fear.
Hope that clears up the issue a bit from this side of the fence. I think I speak for some of the other mods and admins when I say, it'd be a great idea, but the logistics of setting one up without a direct site benefit would be a bit much... especially considering it already exists for those who would normally participate anyway, via AIM, a simple download. If you're interested in that chat, I'm sure we can set up a post in Off Topic to arrange for chat times. Feel free to add, anyone-
